Former Maria Carrillo star Sam Atoe has apparently committed to Cal, transferring from San Mateo.
Based on Cal's secondary issues, I expect him to battle for a starting position. And am excited to see him play big time D1 football, if you consider what Cal did this season as big time.

Spoke too soon. Looks like due to issues (possibly grades?), Atoe will now play for Texas Tech. Disappointed we won't get to see him play locally, but still great he's playing D1.

He's at Texas Tech now and fitting in fantastic! Good to hear. I hope he gets lots of playing time. Speaking of Sonoma County players going to Cal, John Porchivina will be a Bear after initially committing to Fresno State. He will red shirt this season, but look for him to be in the RB mix in 2015.

Interesting to here about Atoe, he may fit in well. He was always a hard worker at MC seemingly doing everything. He started as a RB then even got some time at QB his senior season because they didn't have any better option. He was just a great athlete with great work ethic. He goes into a program that is built around a high flying air rade attack lead by the young Kliff Kingsbury. But what this program has lacked in the past is toughness, they have been pushed around at times by teams that can handle there offensive attack. Atoe surely will not be the biggest or fastest guy on the team, but he can bring a swagger to the team that I feel every team needs. His toughness, and drive is something you cannot coach.

Continuing the theme of former Redwood Empire guys playing D1, Mike Tuaua (Rancho/SRJC) had a monster game for TCU. 7 tackles, including 3-1/2 for loss, with 2 sacks and forced 2 fumbles.
