The alignment committee for the NCS has proposed approving "supplemental leagues" for frosh football this fall......
www.cifncs.org/alignment_&_classification/index.php
Rancho, Newman, and Ukiah have petitioned to have their frosh football play in the SCL, according to that document. I think it must be formally approved yet this spring.
They presumably join Petaluma, Sonoma Valley, and Analy in a combined league for frosh football.
Couple odd things: I think Casa Grande and Windsor also have frosh teams, but they are not listed as asking to join this combined league.
I don't see that any MCAL teams asked to join another league--therefore I am assuming they have enough schools within the MCAL to make a complete schedule. At the very least, Redwood, Terra Linda and San Marin I think had frosh teams last year. And if San Marin had one, then Novato likely did too, perhaps? Who else?
Can anyone verify any of this speculation?
All in all, not a good sign that football participation is going to rise anytime soon. And the decline in numbers started long before the concussion worries hit the headlines.
For the SCL, I am assuming H'burg and El Mo won't get a frosh team together again...I don't think they have for several years. In their defense, those two schools are unusual in that their enrollment has been shrinking--a lot. I think the Santa Rosa school district abolished all frosh sports a number of years ago, but neither Piner nor Elsie Allen would have likely got a team together anyway I think...certainly not Elsie Allen (did they even scrape together a few JV games last season, as the PD had reported they were hoping to do after Elsie beat Willits for their only win?)
