this is a great site.....
prep2prep
has an article on Analy-McClymonds, and a photo of the Mack quarterback...who is white and the article implies is from San Ramon Valley....not the neighborhood demographic of McClymonds...
article doesn't say that the QB is actually living in Oakland now, which could be....
but as I understand, McClymonds has been a charter school, so I guess if a charter has a popular and ambitious coach, it's possible for suburban kids to attend an inner city public school, usually it's other way (inner city suburban like De La Salle.)
I guess this new world is not going away, so I think very soon we'll have to have "relegation tables" instead of fixed leagues, because the lopsided nature of hs ball is going to get worse, not better....
btw Sonoma Valley visits Mclymonds this week....why in the WORLD did SVHS schedule this game?? It would have been better to just have a bye, if they could not find a suitable opponent....

Davidsons moved to Oakland after his dad had a change of jobs. SRV signed off on the transfer this summer. everyone expected the buzz of the great white hope leading Mack.
Not really sure why Sonoma picked up the game. Mack has played in the last two regional small school bowl games. Must not have done their due deligence? Maybe just looked at it as a D5 school with an enrollment of 250 and thought easy W?

Well observer, looks like this has gone 180 degrees. Davidson was held out last week against Sonoma after an anonymous complaint about his residence. The OAL and White had said they had looked into his residency over the summer and it was legit. Well apparently not...he's been ruled ineligible for the rest of the year. No word on any forfeits yet!

nice column on this... yes, OAL ruled that Oakland was not his "primary residence"....so probably showed utility bills for some acquaintance in Oakland but family not really living there... article does not say, but my guess it was fellow Oakland school that complained-- www.sfgate.com/bayarea/johnson/article/Complaint-blows-whistle-on-QB-s-5820302.phparticle points out the larger issue: why is it okay for a black kid living in inner city to commute to play for a private school in white suburbs, but not okay for white kid in suburbs to commute and play for a black inner city public school?

Yeah one of my huge issues is the "anonymous" complaint. If you have a conviction/concern about something and its that important put your name behind it. Possibly a fellow OAL member blew the whistle. But even without Davidson they steamroll that league. Seeks mike lately there has been some selective punishments regarding transfers. Just make open enrollment and it solves a majority of the problems.

Guys, this is the classic case. You have Salesian right around the way who grants "financial assistance" to a Freddie Tagaloa and Jahvid Best type. These types of private schools get away with it year in and year out. They get a few D1 athletes and roll the playoffs making public schools look silly. You do get the anonymous reports on the public schools. Look at Middletowns kicker last year.. Pretty classic that league opponents put you under a microscope when you have a successful season and then the reports fly. St. Helena is dealing with the enrollment grumbles this year! And wasn't it the undefeated O'dowd basketball team who had to forfiet out of the playoffs last year because they played 2 too many games? It's a shame if Mac can't claim the state bowl bid due to this.

Middletown having to forfeit that win against Salesian was unfortunate. Salesian would not have made the playoffs without that forfeit and who knows how far Middletown would have advanced not having to play their nemesis.
What's going on with St Helena enrollment? I haven't heard anything.

Grumbles about how they may have dropped the enrollment from their continuation schools to make the cut for D5. Who knows if any of it is true. All I know is the first I heard of it was after they beat Middletown for the inside track to the league championship. But here is the deal.. In my opinion D4 and now D5 public schools have a tough road in the playoffs due to the fact that they face many of the private schools. "Financial Assistance" to stud athletes creates a lopsided matchup to public schools.

I agree, it's ridiculous having urban schools, public or private, classified the same as small rural schools like Middletown. Apparently McClymonds is several "schools" in the same campus, but somehow only a portion of the total enrollment is officially Mac High.
But that is the world now...to my mind, one solution to create competitive balance is to allow schools that get "mercy ruled" the option to not schedule the winning school next year (ie that would force De La Salle and the like to schedule an entire season of competitive games, rather than two or three and then slaughter the usual foes).
And I am still a big advocate of "relegation tables"...league champs are moved "up" to a group of higher competitive teams, bottom teams moved down. Yes, many negatives with that too, but better than where we are going.
btw, Santa Rosa and Novato have "arts magnets" in their enrollment...face it, there's probably never been a male in those arts magnets who has gone out for football. Shouldn't those schools be allowed now to deduct that arts enrollment for purposes of football classification, if McClymonds gets to deduct a portion of its enrollment, too?
