Wow Ben. Please stop defending private schools' advantages by citing enrollment. The entire public v private debate hinges on the contention that enrollment figures do not matter, it's the ability to cherry pick excellent athletes throughout a large population that is the issue.
I feel you and your supporters must comprehend this, but keep talking about enrollment just to confuse and irritate the issue.

SC, I totally agree the private schools have a distinct advantage by offering "financial assistance" to athletes while the kids who search for an education pay full price.. I can agree that a multiplier needs and has needed to be put in place. But that really doesn't help due to the fact there are STILL private schools who are dominant with low enrollment. You may claim a broken system yet THIS is nothing new! Look Salesian for example has sent MANY athletes to division 1 collages ie Jahvid Best, Freddie Tagaloa for example. They are now in D5 but dominated D4 for years. I think Fortuna played a great game and very well could have won! Agreed Newman and MC are a cut above and still not sure a 1.25 multiplier would remove either from the division. Better yet it gives public schools a better reason to achieve greatness in their sport.. A better reason to play at a higher level.. And us fans a better reason to attend games during the championships!

Sounds like it was a heart braker for fortuna... There's powefull private schools in every division... Makes it a little harder on all the public schools to win a division... Division 4 is no cake walk for any of these schools... What really gets old is de la salle winning division 1 every year for the last 25 years...

I have no problem with a multiplyer, but really don't have a huge problem with the system as is. Last night there were some good games between private and public (Folsom/ SM, Oak Grove //VC, CC/MD) where the private schools forgot to use to heir advantages. I'm kidding , but I think there are advantages and disadvantages to private schools. I hear a lot about financial assistance and players paid to attend schools? I know families who's kids who have attended Newman/ MC who were outstanding athletes and their parents worked their asses off to pay tuition. There is financial assistance available, but it is available to all students and is through a separate clearing house ( I know from parents of non athletes who use it). Hell as long as they pay their taxes (supporting public schools they aren't even using) and choose to send their kid to a private school I don't have a problem with it. Same thing with open enrollment. I am all for it and think it's good. Choices are good, I like giving people options on their kids education.
There is a push for a seperate, private / public school divisions. I don't know? I kind of think be careful what you wish for. If you think there is a disparity now, just watch a mass of exodus to the private schools creating a truly unbalanced system. If the private side is stronger, no one will stay on the public side. Claiming a watered down second rate championship is not going to appeal to a lot of people. I know as a parent of an athlete, I want my kid to be the best they can and be pushed. I'd seek out the strongest and best competition for them.
Ok enough of the soap box. Agree, disagree it's all good. At least everyone on here is passionate about football and kids. Congratulations to Newman and Analy for pinching their tickets to the finals.
