fb415, How's it looking in Novato? Sounds like they got the votes, just waiting for the absentee votes to be finalized!

Won't know until sometime today...But according to Bracket, all is well for NOVATO FOOTBALL. Unfortunately the budget crisis PANIC had some of us, including me, worried about the future but after the parent meeting it was painfully clear that most of us don't know much about how to run a school budget, lol. The Boosters pay for almost everything and that money comes from parents and fund raising.
Today is the last day for spring practice which will include an alumni game with grads from as far back as 2001 participating. The alums will play 7-7 against the 2009 Varsity squad. Last years game was a blow out in favor of the alumni and I don't expect this years game to be any different, lol.

Anyone know exactly what football programs are on the chopping block?

Wow, a scrimmage against alumni. Completely and totally a violation of NCS Spring Football rules. No games, scrimmages, or practices against anyone other than current students from your school.

Everyone should be allowed to scrimmage alumni. I am not saying I agree with the rule.

Bill, you are technically right however I dont think anyone cares if they play alumni. I think the rule is only there to keep teams from trying to schedule a spring football scrimmage against another school.

7 on 7 drills with no pads, no helmets-4 downs per side....if their breaking the rules then it's a stupid rule, lol. They do it in SoCal all the time, against other schools, Spring and Summer.

After the game I started to worry about what was said but I realized, Brackett knows the rules and would NEVER jepordize the team with dumb mistakes...there are no specific guidelines for spring ball regarding 7 on 7 or even 11 on 11.
From the NCS site: Additional Questions that have been received by the NCS Office Spring Football Spring football may be conducted according to the following guidelines: Spring practices shall not start earlier than the Monday two weeks prior to Memorial Day and must be completed before spring final examinations start. a) Spring practice shall not exceed ten (10) practice sessions, none of which may be held on Saturday or Sunday. b) The only allowable football equipment for spring football shall be: football shoes, footballs, helmets and blocking bags. Interpretations regarding spring football practice: 1. Spring football practice does not have to be conducted on consecutive days, however, spring football practice must conform to the time period outlined above. - 5 - P:\MANAGE\PRACTICE AND CONDITIONING RULES INTERPRETATIONS.doc 2. Schools are allowed 10 practice sessions. Sessions may be broken down to a single level (J.V. and varsity). However, only 10 days are allowed. Schools may not have 10 days with one level and 10 days with a second level. Schools may have five days with a single level and five days with a second level.
The concern is time....kinda funny cause everyone wanted to keep playing but Brackett was very strict about making sure the team didn't over do the time frame. lol.

Let me again confirm that I absolutely believe they should be allowed to scrimmage alumni 7 on 7 11on11 or any other way. I have just been told by an athletic director that their understanding of the rule is that you cant. I ABSOLUTELY believe what Novato did was great for the kids and is really cool. Dont misunderstand that.

BTW, Measure A passed with well over the required votes. Novato Unified can breath easier, at least til 2011.
