WHS has several QB options Camerena, McAlvain and Grainger. At the RB spot they could use Jerad Leon, Grainger or camerena if another QB arises.

"truth" you hire any assistant coaches yet. Did you bring most of your staff up with you? Good luck this year you should have a great team and compete for an SCL title.

thx firemanbill - I agree it is a great group of kids.
northcounty - I think your question would be better answered by me. We haven't finalized anything yet, but we are close. We have a good group and good support but we have a long way to go, to get to where I want the program to be.

Cardninal Newman will play Valley Christian-San Jose (WCAL) and Palma at home. VC will have lots of speed at the skill postions and an all league (WCAL) QB. VC's RB Byron Marshall plyed and started at RB and WR as a frosh (will be a junior), and was all CALHISPORTS soph football player of the year. His brother started at AZ as a frosh last season. Marshall will be one of the top recruits in CA his senior year. He has good size, is strong and very fast. VC lost alot on their line from last seson (3 kids at 6-3-6-6 and 280+, but return a couple good ones. They will have lots of talent and compete at the top of the WCAL next season. Palma returns some very good RBs and a decent receiver, but QB will be more of an athletic runner. He can throw the ball, but not like the last two. He does run ery well though. The line should be decent with a couple of the JVs moving up. Defense shoul be good with excellent LBs and up the middle very tough. DBs should be good as well. They may have 3 sophs start and as many os 8 could move up. The frosh class last season was the most talented ever in all sports (a super class with several frosh starting in basketball, baseball, track varsity). The frosh were bigger than the varsity last season and varsity should be back up to elite level in D3 in two to three years. Next season Palma may go back to traditional ball control Fly with strong defense. Should be a good game. Valley Christian will be faster than Palma and could challenge at the top of the WCAL if their line develops.

I updated Rancho's schedule yesterday. Rancho wont play Vintage again, so they will travel to play Pinole Valley in week #1. Should be a great game, could be a possible GOTW.

I'm glad Montgomery replaced Lincoln, SF with D1 Heritage out of the Bay Valley League for their 2nd game of the season in 2010. Heritage has certainly been an up and coming program over the past few years. Overall, a solid preseason with Windsor, Heritage, and Casa. I did notice their first five games are on the road according to the schedule below. montgomeryhighschool.com/assets/pdf/10-11/Sports/Football%20Schedule1%2010-11.pdf

Newman will play them this season. This is the #2 RB Darrelled Jones (jersey #3)that is getting lots of interest right now and will be a senior. The Junior next season and #1 RB Byron Marshall is bigger and faster and will be one of the top RBs in the state and like his brothwr will be heavily recruited. They return most of the skill players- very balenced offense. This is just a video of one player. Will be interesting to see this game. bigpictureathletics.com/darrelledjones/index.htmlPalma Srs and Jrs has been working really hard this season after their big loss to St Francis in the playoffs. They look to be a lot stronger physically than last season. 6-7 sophs (last season frosh) will definately be up on varsity with maybe 3-4 starting or lots of time 2-3 others getting time. QB is only question on this team, and the senior or junior will be pretty good. The soph may stay down on JV but will be a future D1A caliber QB by senior year. Newman is going to have a tough schedule this coming season. Definately should prepare them for playoffs and if they win- another shot at state.
