Just wanted to let everyone know that NBPreps.com launched today. NorthBayPreps is focused on highlighting HS football talent from just the North Bay and North Coast. The idea was hatched when I moved back to Santa Rosa a couple of years ago to practice law after years of working in college athletics at a couple of BCS schools. A few of us were attending an NCS Playoff game and one kid stuck out to me as an obvious Division 1 caliber player. I didn't think much of it until months after signing day when I discovered he signed with a Division 2 school, not even an FCS school. I contacted the kid to find out what happened, and he said he had no idea how to be recruited. And other than a handful of coaches, nobody else in the area really knew either. So I have started NorthBayPreps, a not for profit organization, to help talented kids get identified and evaluated to put them in the best position possible to receive college scholarships. It sounds strange, but it is already pretty late in the recruiting process for 2014. So we've evaluated as much of the top talent in the area as we could identify. Some of our rankings might not be in line with what the national analysts think, because they basically feed off each other's hype. All evaluations are done independent of who has offered and where kids have committed.
But we could use your help as fans. If you see a talented kid that might be flying under the radar, let us know about him so we can do an evaluation and get his name out there. Give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook, and come check out the site! The preseason North Bay Top 10 is posted as well as the Top 20 prospects North of the Bay.

The Casa Grande-Napa game this weekend will likely have the most individual talent on the field that we'll see in any one game this year. As teams, both have some developing to do, but both have some quality players. Its a shame that both this game and the El Cerrito-Newman game are being played on Saturday night (BTW how did that happen?) because it would've been great to attend both. Not to mention, Napa Memorial Stadium should be on any Bay Area HS Football fan's bucket list. It is absolutely gorgeous. In just this game there are seven D1 prospects, including the top three players in the preseason NBPreps Top 20.

MC - agreed Cellis ranked too low! Mr. Everything out there - threw TD, kicked FG, catches anything near him. As a D1 prospect probably just lacks a little top end speed. Mahalak finding his way it seems - some shaky moments. Helps having Cellis for sure!! For my $, and in order - best players in the northbay : Cellis, Wilkins, Porchivina. Wilkins was special on Sat. night vs. Northgate in a 48-45 loss. Threw 5TD, brought team back down 10 w/ 2 minutes left in the game. Porchivina - reminds me of Brian Urlacher!~ Runs with power and speed, chases down everything on D.

New Mid-season Player Rankings and Analysis now posted in the NBPreps Top 25. There was some serious improvement by some kids in the off-season. This is one of the beauties of HS football. There is so much physical and mental development at that age, that a player can use a single off-season and grow leaps and bounds.

Yeah having Celis at #9? i think he actually fell down a spot when he has been one of the best WRs, kickers and Safeties in the Bay Area with many more offers than some guys ahead of him.............hard to honestly take your website seriously when you have Celis ranked where hes at

What does it matter if they think someone is #9 or #3, they are entitled to their opinion. I rarely agree with the PD team rankings but they are also entitled to their opinions. Having a site that is trying to help players get noticed and possibly help with a scholarship is the important thing. I wish there was a site like www.nbpreps.com/ for High School Baseball players. The ones I have been in touch all want $$$$ for their "service".

Yeah having Celis at #9? i think he actually fell down a spot when he has been one of the best WRs, kickers and Safeties in the Bay Area with many more offers than some guys ahead of him.............hard to honestly take your website seriously when you have Celis ranked where hes at We respect your opinion and debating the rankings is part of the process, and we are aware of his offers. We deliberately omit offers on the site because a big problem with college recruiting today is that so much of it is based more on hype than real evaluation. Why do you think the North Bay gets largely ignored? If one program offers, then another program feels validated in offering, and so on. The whole point of creating the organization was to get exposure to the best prospects in the North Bay. Now, is Drew having one of the best seasons of any player in the area? Absolutely. And he deserves all of the accolades that come to him. And, accordingly, he is ranked as a Top 10 prospect in the entire region. But we look at kids in terms of their college prospects. As a good, but not elite, athlete with a decent build, Drew will play one of two positions in college: WR or Safety. We think he will end up as a Safety because 6'0" WRs are a dime a dozen, many of whom are far more athletic than Drew, but he has a thick enough build and is physical enough to play Safety. Unfortunately, right now he plays LB at MC, so he still needs to learn the Safety position. The question is this, just because Drew has a number of offers and a guy like Caleb Tremblay, for example, has zero, does that mean Celis is a better college prospect? Tremblay is a 6'5" OLB who is very quick, gets to the passer, makes plays all over the field, and can cover in space, despite his most talented teammate being a 220 lb defensive tackle. He plays for a mediocre program that plays second fiddle in its own stadium and by all accounts he didn't attend any big camps or combines over the summer, so he was never evaluated. We try to look at each player objectively. I will give you the two names of current FBS pre-season all-americans who played high school ball in the North Bay: Cody Hoffman (BYU) and Jason Verrett (TCU). Did you hear much about their offers coming out of high school? Cody was headed to Sac State before BYU came along right before signing day and offered. Jason had to play at SRJC to get noticed at all before going to TCU. Both were talented coming out of high school and were no less talented because of the lack of hype surrounding their recruitment. But we love the discussion and the feedback. Its what makes rankings fun.

The End of Season NBPreps Top 25 has been posted. The all-league teams brought to our attention a few kids who haven't gotten much publicity over the course of the season. So far the following kids have committed to D1 schools:
Braden Eggert to Oregon Morgan Mahalak to Oregon Drew Celis to Nevada Manny Wilkins to Arizona State John Porchivina to Fresno State
Expect these kids to also be signing NLI's come February (and hopefully a few more):
Jajuan Lawson Jacob Hicks Keaton Dunsford Miles Gardea Damon Moore
And expect the following underclassmen to see recruiting attention in the future:
Austin Aaron (Napa) Clayton Demski (Marin Catholic) Chris Taylor-Yamanoha (Rancho Cotate) Brendan Jackson (Casa Grande) Peter Parrick (Casa Grande) Matt Abramo (Casa Grande) Casey Longaker (Casa Grande)
Also, starting this next recruiting cycle NBPreps will be expanding its coverage to the entire 707 Area Code. We got a late start this year, so we had to limit our focus. This means the MEL, SCAC, and small school prospects will all be part of our evaluations. And a big thanks to those of you who have brought kids to our attention who deserve more of a look in recruiting than they have been getting.

The initial 2015 NorthBayPreps Top 30, Underclass Top 15, position rankings, and watch lists have all been released. With the addition of Solano County, more of Napa County, and regional Small Schools, we are now evaluating players from every football playing high school in the North Bay and North Coast (except 8 man). So far for 2014, 18 area kids are headed to 4 year schools straight out of high school. Shortly after we posted our initial 2015 OL player rankings, Jake Hanson from Eureka (who didn't even have a profile on Scout or Rivals at the time) received an offer from Cal, and has since received interest from several schools. Unfortunately there are still coaches who are very slow to release film on their players, even ones that have received all-league honors from last year. So despite the fact that we've reviewed film on hundreds of kids, there are still dozens more notables that don't have accessible film. Please encourage your coaches to be proactive with getting highlight videos posted so nobody goes overlooked. www.nbpreps.com/

nbpreps - any word on whether former Montgomery and SRJC standout Austin Shull will be continuing his football career at a four year college?
