What is the point of winning a SECTION TITLE if it is meaningless? Schools that Newman should be, and can, compete with are off winning the Div. II and Div. III championship. (Not saying this years team can complete with them, but in the aggregate, Newman can compete). To win a Div. IV championship, state bowl or not, is just meaningless for a school such as Newman. Would be like De La Salle winning a Div. IV title.

Ben, what do you think is the general consensus among Newman fans about CN entering D4? It's really just the same as basketball (which I also disagree Newman entering D4 playoffs in hoops--a shame for teams like Cloverdale that are the best ever by their standards but can't beat the St. Josephs and Newmans and Valley Christians.) Plus, it's worse in football because a mismatch in football is more painful than in other sports.
Anyway, Ben, do you think other Newman fans agree with you?

Ben,
Good points, again I don't like it, but the system is flawed..
From what I've heard there are some newer parents/ people who expect titles and championship if little Johnny is going to Newman. Going down to D4 sure increases those chances. Part of the pussificstion, participation trophy crowd we have a lot of.
From what I've heard from some older guard "Newman men" is the allure of the school has always been they will take on all comers and play against the best (D3) not afraid to lose because it will make them better (anti Fort Bragg Perkins approach). I know a few who are embarrassed by this move.

So safe to say Daddy ball is taking over at Newman? If you want to be a power house you play the power houses right? I would be very surprised if they don't have a harder time scheduling some of the power houses for preseason as they have in the past now that they are D4 or if they even want to. Wondering if they plan to play a softer preseason schedule for the next few years and go undefeated dominating the little schools with the newer parents getting Johnny his trophies. Also, their "recruiting" or not recruiting whatever you call it may take a hit why would you want to go play D4 size schools if you are talented enough to compete at higher levels and want to be get pushed to be better? Embarrassed is what they should be.

I don't think the D4 move will really hurt Newman getting top opponents in the preseason. And they will still probably want to schedule up.
The preseason and overall records are pretty useless now. With 13 divisions for EVERY section champ it is so watered down. This scenario could actually happen, go 0-5 in pre-season and say 3-2 in league and you qualify for the NCS playoffs. Get hot win 4 games and now a 7-7 SECTION CHAMP is in a regional SBG.
Now you maybe not see some better out of section match ups which we had just a few years ago (CN, Palma, Central Cath etc) because now those teams win their sections and they are in.
