I read in the PD Cronin says the offense needs to try different things to get the offense rolling. Just curious what some of you are thinking. How bout workin in some of those Defensive guys on offense. I think James should QB. get Ratto the ball or have him fullback and get the ball to the little guy Laron kinda like RC uses dworking and orduna.

Interesting to me that everyone rips on Rancho for running to much. Now a Newman fan suggests emulating some of Ranchos offensive scheme. Not trying to disrespect your post, just very ironic.
I think everyone can trust Cronin and know whatever he and his coaching staff decides, is the best thing for Newman.

It is good to see that people find out that Cronin is human. When he has good, not superb athletes that they play just like the other good teams in the league. Now maybe people will talk about high school football in our area and not all the other stuff (recruiting) people like to talk about.

Yeah seems like newman needs to go back to the drawing board and look at what is not working for them.. Their games arent getting easier.. Have rancho this week and then carrillo to end the season.. If newman wants to get into playoffs as a contender they have to beat rancho next week and work as a team.. and keep that offense on the field..

Although this makes for interesting league play . Newmans Defense played well. Cant wait to see the game Friday to see how Newman rebounds..You run to open the passing game. And yes Rancho does run too much they would be better if they passed more.

newmanfan this is one year that I will have to say we have started to pass a little bit more. With a speedster in Sean Fish as one of your go to guys it makes it much easier.

The Newman coaching staff needs to analyze many different issues this season but more importantly, think more long-range and plan accordingly for consistency year-to-year. A few issues that have been obvious this year:
* with a "dream team" last year (a coach may be lucky to have that combination of talent, depth and chemistry once or twice in his coaching career) how do you ensure the second string is utilized sufficiently in order to prepare for the next season? Due to the large number of seniors last year and the incredible talent in all positions, this year's seniors played sparingly last year. I can totally understand that the coaching staff was planning for the State Championship and getting the best stats possible for the numerous seniors who went on to play college football at the next level. But many believe that strategy, to some extent, has hurt this year's squad.
2. Does it make sense to pull a very good QB up from JV to Varsity after one JV game in his Sophomore year, primarily to play defense, and then expect him to step back in a QB, after not playing QB since his Frosh year? The other fall out from that move was the JV team no longer had a passing QB and had to run the ball the rest of the season. That also impacted the JV WRs which may partially explain the lack of offense.

"how do you ensure the second string is utilized sufficiently in order to prepare for the next season?"
If you watched Newman play for the last two or three years you should have noticed that their second string players probably saw more playing time than any second string in the league. I can't tell you how many times the first string was on the bench by the 3rd quarter but it was alot. In the Elsie Allen games most of their top players weren't even on the field after a dozen plays or so.

The Double wing has worked for the cardinals.. they have the speed to run it.. i say keep it up, not the flashy offense but its done the job done against the teams that they have faced. I would like to see some passing and spread out the defense, but cronin has to do what he can to lead a winning program

Based upon the last game that Newman played, their offense appears to be, well, offensive...

If Cronin did not have Ponce on his staff what do you think he could have done with this team this year

I say with james this week against petaluma, that should help them move the ball and have some size in there.. should be a good test for both teams.

I just really don't see this as a good game. Cardinal Newman just can't matchup with Petaluma's athletes. Petaluma is 10-0 for a reason. Petaluma has two close games against Rancho, and everyone forgets about the rest of their blowouts? Look what Petaluma did to Windsor, Casa, Carrillo, & Healdsburg. I still like Petaluma by 2 Td's+.
