I have seen petaluma play.. good group of SENIORS.. no doubt they should be 10-0.. but every team has its weakness. i say if newman can come out quick and score.. it could be a game.. but petaluma is a tough team playing at home.. so anything can happen..

And it's being reported by the PD the game will in fact be at Petaluma High School.

I never understood why the game wouldn't have been at Durst. Why would they think about giving up home field. So the field is a bit muddy, it hasn't been a problem the past 30 years when they have had playoff games there. Hell it used to be just mud by the end of the year when Casa and SV also used it for a home field.

Why did the non-issue of Petaluma not playing at Durst even come up? I can't imagine it originated in Petaluma. Is the CIF now going to insist that no playoffs can ever be on a natural grass field? Yeah, it's a little muddy, you're supposed to be football players, get over it.

The smell of that mud on Durst field is something I'll never forget and I played on it in 1972! '

I am from so. cal., but clearly recall my last hs fb game...muddy, rainy, the time of my life...if you could see someone's number, then they didn't get in the game...slip sliding away all over the place. I was a center, and keeping the ball dry was no easy task...the towel draped on my butt did not do much good - those were the days!

Petaluma has two close games against Rancho, and everyone forgets about the rest of their blowouts? Look what Petaluma did to Windsor, Casa, Carrillo, & Healdsburg. I still like Petaluma by 2 Td's+.
I think a difference in the playoffs is that teams are playing with their backs to the wall. They have nothing to lose, especially if they are lower seeded. A team like Newman with a winning tradition and expectation of success, an innovative coach, disciplined players, and playing as the "underdog" makes them especially dangerous. I'd expect a battle.

I do believe the possible change of venue was brought up by Petaluma, NOT the NCS. Just what I heard, not for sure. I dont believe the NCS has the power to change the venue just because of field condition.

I understand where your coming from xcat, but when you have two well coached teams who know their X's & O's, the only thing that really seperates them is the Jimmy's & Joe's, and Petaluma is a lot more talented. Petaluma has been playing with a bull's eye on their back all season long, and only one team has challenged them. Not to mention, after having a close call last game, it may have been a good wake up call for Petaluma. There is no doubt, Petaluma needs to play a good game, but if they do I don't see this as a one score game. We'll find out Friday.

Newmanfan get a life. Instead of appreciating good football you just ramble on about newman and honestly if I was part of their program I would like you doing this at all. I hope someone reads all your posts and just laughs it up when they read them. Obviously you are a newman fan, but just appreciate that all these kids are playing very exciting and great football.

Not only did Petaluma prove who was the superior team, but who was also the better coached team. Whatever adjustments Petaluma made defensively in the 2nd half were the key to the game. Up until their final drive, which still resulted in an INT, CN simply couldn't move the ball. Primarily due to Petaluma's pass rush against James.
Factor in the 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty againt CN's coach as they were driving for a potential game tying score in the 4th, and there's no question Petluma's coaches did a better job tonight.
But congratulations Trojans! A well fought and well deserved win. As usual, an abolute team effort with too many players on both sides of the ball to single out as having remarkable games.

Petaluma's offensive backfield is a perfect storm. They are going to be tough to beat.

I was actually surprised Newman was able to keep it so close. Give those guys credit, they were severely out-manned, but they played with a lot of heart. If Petaluma doesn't fumble at Newman's 10 on the opening drive, Petaluma wins by 3 TD's.
