You've got to look at the chances last years last place team would then go undefeated. First, I doubt Marin Catholic will lose to anyone but Novato or vise versa so seeing both Marin Catholic and Novato with a loss is very unlikely. And Second, San Rafael beating a talented Tamalpais, Justin-Siena, and San Marin team most likely wont happen. Would be a story book season for the Bulldogs if it happened.

It could potentially penalize the stronger teams that will have to play all the upper tier teams in league. But for the most part I see why they do it. It does give the traditionally weaker teams a fighting chance. Plus I agree with Ben, for as great as a turn around SR has had, I still see them losing to JS and Tam and maybe SM.

Overall I think its a great idea for the NBL especially! It would keep Newman or Montgomery from playing Elsie Allen. It would give last seasons league champ a better shot at having a higher level of competition.
Sure each school would need to play another non-league game, but that would still work better in the long run than having the league champ play Elsie or whoever the last place team maybe.
