Novato plays San Marin this week! Just a great rivlary game. If you have not see one, this one should be as good as any!! Hornets come in on a roll and rising to #5 rank in NCS D3, SM rolled over redwood. Both teams will look to pound the ball, this one will come down to HEART! Novato rests its starting QB last week in blowout win vs. SR / SM experimented moving their QB to running back for a few sets and playing soph kid at QB. DE Kristoffers is the game changer for the Mustangs, while JT Peleki is the horse for the Hornets. A SM victory would catapault them up the rankings you would have to assume, a loss may put them out of playoffs?? what would happen to Hornets w/ a loss? this is the SUPERBOWL of the MCAL. SM stumbled in games they should have won, (TL/Tam) while Hornets have handled their business. NHS has more weapons, SM has a lot of heart! Will take both teams best game to win this one! Going out on a limb here -- SM 22, NHS 20!!!

This is a grrat game. I'm actually out of town saturday and was bummed I'm going to miss it. Superbowl of the MCAL? Uhm usually the superbowl has the 2 best teams or at least one of them involved. Great rivalry game, but it isn't on the level of superbowl ( plus it's played in the day, which is a drawback and too bad).

I like your enthusiasm there Greg Brady but I think you have been spending to much time with Marsha.
Have you looked at the numbers ? Not counting the losses by both teams to MC the 3 common opponents are San Rafael, Terra Linda and Redwood. San Marin scored 117 points and gave up 43 and just barley beat TL 28-24 . Novato on the other hand scored 146 points and gave up 0 . YES THAT'S RIGHT NO POINTS and fully thrashed TL 41-0 and played the 4th Q with a running clock .
Still on the numbers what about the 12th man? Novato always has the larger and louder crowds even last season in the rain the Novato fans turned out in force at San Marin. This one is at the Hornets nest you know it will be loud the stands will be full.
As far as resting the starting QB last week vs San Rafael. Not only did they rest the QB they rested most of the first team the whole game. The put 50 on the board in the first half with 75% of the 2nd team.
San Marin WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RUN THE BALL.
Novato 48 San Marin 7

This game will come down to who has the discipline and who wants it more. Last year Novato played as though it was a guaranteed win and showed no discipline or heart. Seems to be a bit more of both on this years squad. Novato needs to get back the trophy and show SM that last year was just a fluke.

bleachercoach -- u may or may not know, i fancy CAROL BRADY!!!
i am well aware of the common opponents #'s -- will not take into account either's game vs. San Rafael as a statment of competence for either. No offense to the Bulldogs! and as my post said, GOING OUT ON A LIMB! Novato better team on paper, and rolled up the lesser MCAL teams. SUPERBOWL -- because of the atmosphere and excitement, i did notice there is another team in MCAL who is better than all by a stretch. I would note the MC game -- SM was tied at half before being overtaken, Novato lost 41-6. I think that speaks louder than how they fared vs. TL. TL game showed the mustangs rally back from down 11 late and win, which shows some character. Hornets not tested in come from behind, or in a close one just yet. I have watched both play one game this year (SM/MC and NHS/MC) -- SM LOST TO TAM! Yes in OT, yes kid threw 6 picks, but stilil a loss to someone they should beat.
This is why I think closer than a blowout. Both teams have good backs, QB passing advantage has to go to NHS, more experienced kid - but may not matter as Novato now likes to pound the ball - Novato tandem I think best in MCAL with Changeux and Peleki. a grind out affair i'm sure, whoever doesn't make mistakes should win. SM QB is a better runner than NHS, NHS tailback better than SM’s.fun LINE PLAY??? Don’t know either well enough…… Just don't see a blowout happening! Sure will be a fun one though (agree with bella - need night games!) disagree with SM not being able to run the ball. Changeux (SM) probably the best runner on that field come Saturday!!
12TH MAN? I don’t think 30-40 extra Hornet fans will raise these boys excitement any, this one HYPES itself!! . Mustangs in a nail biter! No offense to the NHS homers, i love the Hornets and they are ON A ROLL, some really great kids on that team!!! – if SM does win it will surely be an UPSET – but that’s why they play the games, and that’s why I have had this one circled all year as game of year for MCAL. -- FYI i'm sure your Novato coaches saw, but Anne Sullivan (lol) did play some QB for the stangs, with Changeux at rb/slot, and started the game at receiver -- seemed to work ok from what i heard and saw on stats. (the best part is that SM is even in this conversation, from where they were few years ago to being able to line up and compete is a WIN in itself) hoping for a great one! If it's 48-7, i vow to take Tiger the dog out back and kick him!!! Mustangs win, and it's Alice's meatloaf for all!!!

I hope your right Greg. San Marin has a great history and tradition and one of the programs that I think it is good for everyone when they are "up!" I just don't think they will be able to pull it out against Novato who has seemed to really improve since the MC game.
"Mustangs win, and it's Alice's meatloaf for all!!!"
Uggghh, I think I'd stay away from Alice's "meat" I think Sam has already butchered that up!

I love these posts.....very impressive! And I'm an SCL snob who thinks we have the best overall game enviornment. Sounds like a fun game to attend!
can anyone tell me the overall series record? they must have been playing since late 60s or something (San Marin opened about then, right?)

Novato is going to win, will be close tille about midway thru the 3rd and the ground and pound will wear out SM, but hopefully SM brings their A game and it goes down to the wire

Well I was off a little on the score Novato wins 34-7. I was correct however in the fact that San Marin would not be able to run the ball. After a couple of muffed snaps for huge losses I would be surprised if San Marin had any rushing yards at all. If it was not for some questionable penalty calls on Novato that sustained SM's only scoring drive it would have been a shutout

-25 yards rushing with only 71 total yards of offense for SM. Also noticed a few questionable non-calls but didn't really affect the out come, lol. Too bad we had to pull the 3 unsportsman penalties at the end.....Oh wait, San Marin did the same thing last year. I guess tit for tat is fair. Hopefully our boys celebrate at home tonight instead of vandalizing SM like SM did to NHS last year. Novato still has work to do, considering both TD's in the first half were from our defense. Changeax had 183 rushing and most were in the 2nd half.
GO HORNETS

I was waiting for the game stats LOL what a joke -25 yards rushing !!!!
Where is oldsalami ? San Marin taking over please. I told you guys SM could not run on the Hornets.
And how about the turn out the Novato side 30 or 40 extra fans lol the stands where packed and rocking while the San Marin side was thin and pathetic.
Greg because of the poor showing by SM I will buy the first two pitchers at Moylans just so I can hear you tell me I was right

Not sure where you were sitting but the visitors side appeared to be close to full while on the home side you could pick your spot as long as it was the other side of the press box. I was actually surprised at sparse attendance compared to previous City Championships. Since 2004, ALL the Novato games would be SRO on the home side. Not so much the last 2/3 years. Just sayin.

the personal fouls at the end were unfortunate, but Hornet boys probably jacked up to go get trophy -- some trash talk is normal in rivalry - did not seem to be a problem or get out of hand. I know half those kids and they are good kids. Folks seemed bit surprised they didn't knee the ball out at the end with 20 seconds inside the 5 yd line, but they hurried up and punched in the back breaker! Style points i suppose, if they kneel the ball out time would have run out, boys could have stormed the field to get trophy, and on to MOYLANS to cry in my losing wager beer!! I sat on NHS side and heard some folks grumbling about it, didn't seem like a huge deal, not like he called timeout... SM had the students in the stands but I saw mostly parents and adults on NHS side? First half was good, turning point was 14-7 i think, NHS QB (not very impressive, but didn't need to be) throws one that looked to be right at linebacker, goes thru his hands and into hands of NHS receiver for TD. 21-7 and Hornets started to pound the ball and broke their backs. Soph QB/receiver (#11) (tex transfer) made a big catch and looked good under center when starter got injured (best mustang on sat, all over field), best guy on the field was #20 for Hornets, excellent balance and very tough running. Passing game looked subpar. Pick 6 and blocked punt did the mustangs in early, even though the score was close at that time. Not much offense to speak of. U guys think the last second TD was bush league? I got no real issue, but heard Hornet folks questioning it. Onward and upward for the Hornets, my two homer teams face off in Drake and SM to see if Stangs can stumble into a playoff seed...Pirates rock! Bleacher coach - i tried to tell the stangs of your prognostication, but they decided to play anyways!! rushing yards -- sacks and -60 yards cause the kid snapped it over the kids head a few times. Both Mustang QB's had some decent runs. But sounds better and more DOMINANT for the MIGHTY HORNETS!! Pulease!! Curious - what questionable call prevented the HORNETS shutout? Those refs should know better! I saw a great pass and catch for 6 from like the 40 yd line? Surely u NHS homers can give it up for the best play of the game? mc 415 had the best prognostication...BleacherCoach = wrong on the attendance, right on the running....i sat on BOTH sides during game. Worst thing for me was some snooty SM parent said "go back to your trailer park" UGH - i heard it from NHS side. Went to friends house after at mansiion in Indian Valley, they had a nice RV but no trailer. I must abstain from any predictions on Drake / SM, too much of a homer on both. green team will win!!
