The Press Democrat ran an article stating St. Vincents will return the the NCL I for football beginning next season. It looks like the NCL I will be at 9 teams creating a mid season bye. The NCL II appears to remain "defunct" as Calistoga, Tomales, and Upper Lake will stay in the NCL III 8-man again next season. Besides the top 3 or so teams in NCL I it looks like the last couple of years have been rough on the local small schools, as well as the most of the SCL, as most are in enrollment decline or demographic change.

Sounds good to me. I'll bet in a few years an 8-man school will want to play 11-man again, then we'll see two NCL leagues again. Be it NCL I North/South or NCL I and new teams for the NCL II.
Its a good place for St. Vincent considering they play a good deal of NCL I teams already and have historically. Much better than sticking them in the BFL with all that travel time.

Yeah probably a good move down the road. Agree with some of thoughts of changing demographics and enrollment decline. Think the top of the NCL is pretty good. Really curios about what the long time future for Middletown though. Have a couple of friends up there and one says it will rebound. Majority however say its a complete mess and it will never ever be the same in their lifetime and are getting out of there.
ElMo is trying to boost enrollment, but we will see if that comes to fruition. Same with H-Town? Not sure long term however for either. Top half of the SCL looks pretty good. I've been down on the league for years, but I think it actually rebounded this year. I was in the school of thought the NCL 1 was closing the overall gap. But had to step back after watching the games play out this year. Top 2 of NCL (Fort Bragg / SH) would have been 4th in SCL this year. Pretty confident Analy would have been running clock on both, Petaluma was much better and Piner was at a higher level. Curious to see if Piner maintains without Antonio and if Krist keeps it going with Troy. I think Analy sustains as long as the staff stays there.
NBL. Monty? What a mess. Until there is a change look for continued dumpster fire. Will see if TK can rejuvenate Windsor. And Ranchos enrollment is expected to be near 2K in the next 2-3 years, which could force them to D1, ouch!.

In regards to Bella's comment about Middletown:
Middletown is in a free fall and really has been since the economy crashed. Since 2011 they've lost Victor Montenez (transferred after his SO year to Vintage in Napa), Kahi Neves (grew up in Middletown, played youth football there. Went to Newman his FR year before having to move to Utah. He has a full ride to Utah as a QB), Carlos Franco (same as Neves except he moved to Rohnert Park and played at Rancho), Jahver Otero (transferred to St Helena after his FR year) and Jordan Brookshire (same as the others but moved to Santa Rosa before 8th grade).
Middletown's Freshman class is not very good. Their Eighth grade class went winless and weren't competitive in most of the games. The talent, toughness and commitment that has been a fixture for athletes coming out of Middletown for the last 15 years isn't there anymore. They have one more competitive team left (this year coming up). After that Middletown will be a .500 team mostly because of the coaching staff being able to keep them competitive.

Mustang,
Good info. What happens when Foltmer leaves? Always liked him as a coach, but you still need the Jimmies and Joes no matter how good of a coach. Can't see him staying much longer.

Mustang, that is an eye opening list of talent that left Middletown. But lots of schools are having trouble getting players out for football, especially if there is no separate frosh team. I disagree with Ben...I see few if any of the NCL III 8-man teams returning to 11-man. In fact, as long as soccer remains in fall, I predict a pattern of the schools dropping football at times and then reinstating a team when interest cycles around, then dropping the team, and so forth.

Bella- word is the longtime JV coach will take over when Foltmer retires.
