Nate Smith Retweeted CIF-NCS
Rancho Cotate and Marin Catholic have officially moved up to Division II, via petition - Competitive equity movement up includes O'Dowd to Div II, SPSV to Div IV - Comp equity movement down includes Pinole and Newark to Div III, Salesian back to Div V, McKinleyville to Div V

Someone care to explain the logic of Rancho moving up? Comparing D II and D III, they would seem to have a better chance winning D III with only Newman being their competition. D II they have to deal with MC and Campo neither of which they can beat. At least Newman, the familiarity gives them a shot at winning.
As for the other moves, nothing surprising. Salesian is a shell of itself and belongs down at DV. SPSV will struggle at DIV since they lost most of its stars to graduation.
Things are changing on the football realm. Anyone want to guess what will happen if CA bans football at the youth level?

There is no logic in it. Rancho staff must not have known that MC was petitioning up as well and that Bishop O'Dowd was moving up because of competitive equity. Campo plays both Rancho and MC in the first few weeks of the season. Interesting development.

I think it is great that Rancho and other schools petitioned up to the level they should be in. On the other hand Newman always goes lower divisions? And how can Campo not be in D1 after the last 4 or 5 years of NCS championships?

I like the move up myself. For the past several years DII playoff was much easier path to a NCS title than the DIII. Now with the influx of true D3 teams up to DII it has made DII a legit bracket.

Campo is a D3 school no business being D1, D2 will be fun

I think McKinleyville did not even have a varsity team last year, so surprised they were still classified as D4.

I'm fine with Campolindo being Div. II, thats only one up for them. By definition Div. II is supposed to be tougher than Div. III.... for the first time in years we might actually have it.
It leaves the door open for Cardinal Newman to take Div. III.
