Balboa is a team that 0-10 teams are begging to play because they might be able to score a win. What in the world is Cardinal Newman of all teams doing playing a program like this?
I realize this is after a stretch of tough opponents, but BALBOA? Is Newman's JV going to play Balboa's varsity? I'll go with Newman: 28, Balboa: 0, end of the 1st quarter. What does that do for Newman's starting players?

I thought that was a typo at first and it would eventually get fixed. Guess Balboa must be getting overconfident.

Guess since CN playing down in Div it will help with record but really how could this game even get considered?

No idea. I shouldn't be one the schedule. I wouldn't even be too wild if Montgomery or Carrillo scheduled Balboa.
Starters will get maybe play for the first quarter and first possession of the second half.
I see Newman's schedule is loaded with good opponents, but using Balboa as a fall back to get a win is just plain terrible. There are dozens of other opponents that could at least compete and be more of a worthwhile win.

While Balboa isn’t an “ideal” opponent for Newman, it is probably the best or only team they could get to schedule. Most schools are in league play on 9/27 which limits the amount available.

Yeah I’m not sure why they are on the schedule, but wouldn’t be overly concerned. CN’s history of non league scheduling the likes of SM’s and CC’s over the years speaks for itself. A cupcake this year to me is no big deal.
Plus who gives a shit? I wanna know the score of the Royals / Red Sox game and where I can get my hands on a “authentic” Red Sox WS ring 😂.

CN goes from Fortuna who is a perennial small school power, to Sutter who is year in and year out a top team in the Northern Section, to Placer another power who was 12-1 in the tough SJS, to Liberty who is possibly the top public school in Northern California. This is a very tough and ambitious preseason and probably the toughest preseason for a RE team in years, although Rancho's preseason is no cakewalk either. I'm assuming the Balboa game was a last minute placement schedule, it happens, and most teams play a "gimme" game before starting league play anyways. After the first 4 games CN's depth will be tested to the brim. As for Balboa they aren't the worst City section team and it looks like they are improving the program. Balboa's students are from some of the last low/middle income areas left in the City so they will definitely not be scared of the bucolic CN campus. That being said it will be a blowout and backups will in be in by halftime, probably with a running clock.

Definitely not ideal, but with 6 road games and 3 home games they had to have a home game and there weren't a lot of teams willing to come and play at Newman.
