Chris Burris apparently was let go as Ukiah high school football coach yesterday. This is the word around town. I have spoke to several people close to the program and they have confirmed this. It will be interesting to see who Ukiah hires, I believe they will struggle next year no matter who coaches.

I've heard some rumors and got an unconfirmed report that Burris was fired earlier today. I didnt want to post anything until I had confirmed it, but i guess this does it.
I think theres a pretty obvious choice for the next head coach.

Poor Burris, he will be $1,500 poorer and more relaxed.

No more like $3,8000 and the savings to the school and community will be 10 times that. The bottom line is he should have never been hired as the coach and that speaks volumes on Ex Principal who brought the entire athletic program down in the process. In the NBL, who would hire the J.V Coach from Potter Valley with no headcoaching experience to be the Head Coach at Ukiahi!! A school of 1800+ students? Plus giving him a teaching job? He had no program for 12+ years and the ruin of so many good athletes. The highlight of his program was taking the team to the Oregon football camp, and half the time he never went!! Can you imagine taking 70+ kids to the camp and your Head Coach doesn't go? Chris was well liked among the other NBL Coaches because the Rancho's, Newmans, Montys and MC's know what Ukiah can be with a solid Head coach and program. With him at the helm you got what its been, mediocre at best, outside of this year. The assistant coaches Schueller /Sopp/Morris brought some real coaching to the school. In the end, it will play hell on the NBL when the new coach starts the program. Remember, Ukiahi is the only horse in town. They donot have to share atheletes with anyone.

Meredith around student athletes is a joke, no matter the program. Ive been around him while coaching, Ive spoke with his players, you name it. No matter the school, its my personal opinion he should not be coaching until he learns to grow up. Now Im all for giving people a second chance, but right now, SoCo is not ready for Meredith to be 'teaching' football players.

Is the rumor around Ukiah true? Did Burris get fired as the head coach of Ukiah Varsity football? I've heard this rumor for over a week, but nowhere has it been posted. Can someone confirm this for me? If the rumor is true, who is rumored to take over? Schuller?

The rumor is true Burris was let go. I hear the next guy in line is Craig Morris the offensive coordinator. I hear Schuler is going to the college with Sopp. NCSNBL.com Message Board :: General :: General Board :: Post Message

Wildcatsfan, I dont know where you get your information, but you cannot be further from the target. The next coach will be Jeff Schueller if they go inside w/out a teaching position, which is likely. Schueller has the support of the entire staff and will bring back the coaches the school needs to be sucessful. Nothing against Morris, he just does not have that support with the staff or the players. Schueller does and is the obvious choice.

jbub, I believe my info is correct after talking to some people in Ukiah today. Schuler has already committed to the College. I spoke with a person who was at the Mendo College hall of fame dinner and Schuler was introduced as part of their staff and was at a table with the College head coach and Sopp. If I am wrong then I hope so, but it does not look good for him being interested in the job.

Ukiah job was offered to Mendo College defensive coordinator Mike Mari. He turned it down to stay at college.

nblfan, I don't know where you got your information, but they haven't even posted the position for Varsity Coach yet, probably not until some time next week. So how could they have made an offer? There is a process and interviews in front of a committee and this committee hasn't met yet. So I wouldn't start throwing rumors around. There will probably be a few candidates up for the position. I am curious as to who will apply and who will get the job? Hopefully the Press Democrat or the local Ukiah Daily Journal might actually take an iterest in this story so the fans can get more information and not rumors!

Haiku, Mari is a great coach, but he would not come to Ukiah to coach for 3K. There is no teaching positions at Ukiahi and if anything they along with anyone else may lose more good teachers. The job has not been posted as you said and the rumors are flying. As for the newspapers, what newspaper? If a parent doesn't write a story, nothing gets printed. They had a local guy or dad, Toe? Anyway he did a pretty good job with the basketball season. I would go on line and he was better than most. I would not expect to see much out of that paper. The Press Democrat would not consider this newsworthy. I guess we will all have to wait and hear it from someone other than their local rag. My nephew speaks very, very highly of Jeff Schueller, and says many are waiting with their fingers crossed. They are not waiting for the newspapers becaus of its history.
