Fort Bragg fan the truth is Burris not only said his family cares more then him. He also brought up the fact that Ukiah loses coaches every year from his staff. Who's fault is that, the guy in charge, Burris. Burris said he was losing two assistants, we know Sopp went to the College, Why? Who, was the other assistant he was losing. It is obvious who you are, and thank goodness you are at Fort Bragg. I certainly hope you are not referring to me here. If I want to share my opinion, I won't do it under a hidden name like you. I'm not going to comment on some of the things that are being said on this site about certain coaches, but I will say that I'm disappointed to see things happen the way they did for coach Burris. I coached at Ukiah for three years, and I've known Chris for quite a long time. I was friends with him during my time coaching at Montgomery, and I can assure you that while he may have lost some of his passion towards the end, the man was a good coach. How coach Burris survived that job with people like Burrell in the background for the last 4-5 years is beyond me. I would like to see any of you stand in his shoes when the people you work with are flat out lying and doing everything they can to get you fired from your job, and keep up your enthusiasm. Everyone wants to point the finger at him, but in a sense his hands are tied. The school doesn't hire any teacher/coaches, so he has to take what the community has to offer. I brought coach Sopp into the program, and I worked hard to try and build the program from within. There have been coaches who do nothing but bad mouth coach Burris, I'm not going to name names, but there is no way of having a succesful program when that's the atmosphere. It pulls the athletes apart, and the program as a whole. That's it for me. I won't post again, but I assure you if I do it will be under my name, why don't the rest of you give that a try? I wish nothing but the best for Ukiah's program. I left Montgomery, hoping to come up here and be a part of this program, but unfortunately things didn't work out. I agree with you though wildcatsfan, I'm happy I'm in Fort Bragg as well, it's nice to be in a program where I don't have to stand against the wall for fear of being stabbed in the back by the people I work with.

I forgot to mention that I wish all the best for Burris as well, he was ready to leave, but he didn't want to until he had someone there that he was comfortable leaving the program to. Despite what many of you think, this man cared about football, and he cared about Ukiah's program. I wish coach Sopp all the best at the college as well, he's been wanting to coach that level since I started talking with him, and I hope it works out for him. If not, I certainly hope he comes back to UHS, he's a great coach.

I was referring to a guy that has fbfan on his license plate and who coached at Montgomery, and Ukiah for 3 years. Also the non stop talk by fbfan about himself could only come from "well you guessed it, himself'. If i'm wrong I apologize but me and you know I am not.

Holy Crap! He didnt want to leave until he was okay with who he's leaving the program too??!! Ukiah has a nice talent level that has proven themselves in Freshman and JV ball. Ukiah's varsity program is minor compitition at best. This season the talent level was so high, even Burris couldnt hold them back from going 8-2 in the regular season. Burris was an average coach that wasted talent over the last 10 years. Ukiahs program will be better off without him.

I'm Coach Gaston. The one you seem to be referring to as fbfan. I coached at Montgomery, Ukiah, and now Fort Bragg, and no, I do not have fbfan on my license plate. So unless there is another coach in Fort Bragg that has been in the same places as me wildcatsfan, you are mistaken here. I've met several explayers that I've coached at Ukiah over here in Fort Bragg, one of them may be fbfan, but I assure you it's not me.

Ben, I'm really curious as to what makes you such an expert on the subject of coaching at Ukiah. They haven't had a very sucessful freshman team in quite a while, and if you look at the overall history of Ukiah, you'll see that not a lot is different now then it was 20 years ago when I played there. Ukiah is known for a strong JV team and a competitive varsity team, it's been the same with every other coach up there, not just Burris.

"it's been the same with every other coach up there, not just Burris"
So if a program is bad under one coach, its automatically going to be bad under another coach? Before De La Salle's current coach became the Spartans head coach, I dont believe they had had a winning season.
2007: 4-5-1 (3-4) 2006: 4-6 (3-4) 2005: 5-6 (4-3) 2004: 5-6 (4-3) 2003: 4-2-2 (3-2-2) 2002: 6-5 (4-3) 2001 5-4-1 (4-3)
.500 is successful?? .500 is average. So you're telling me that out of all the talent coming from every student at Ukiah, .500 is the best they can be? A great JV team transitions to a great varsity team with proper coaching. You dont need to be an expect in the Ukiah community to know they are able to do much more.

I believe the last successful freshman team went 7-1.That was the Senior class. The past two seasons the frosh went 1-7.The New Varsity coach will have to address the frosh staff and clean that mess up too. Ben it seems going .500 is satisfactory for some around here, but hopefully with the new hire we will strive for perfection!

I agree! I dont know whats up with their Freshman program, but something must have changed for a 'successful' team to go from 7-1 to 1-7 two years in a row. If nothing has changed, then it could just be a hiccup.

Spring Football is less than 4 weeks away. Has Ukiah hired a coach yet? What is the latest news. I heard a rumor..and it is only a rumor not fact at all......but I heard Russell Ponce applied for the job. Does anyone know where their hiring process is?

Jeff Schuller has been named the head coach at Ukiah. Schuller was a great player for Ukiah in the early 80's. He then went on to play at Cal. He has coaching experience as an assistant at Mendocino college, Analy, Montgomery and Newman. He is a great coach and was the reason that we were succesful last year. I am glad to see Burris and Morris go. And I am glad that the school finally got the best man for the job. Congradulations coach Schuller and good luck!

I agree they will be good, but this season Im not so sure. Ukiah has had some problems for a while now, the program has fallen quite a lot now, and Schuller cant do it all in just a matter of months. This season will be a margin for error on his future success at Ukiah.

I agree. Ukiah lost all their skill positions this year... This will be a drop off year for them.
