Not since the Rey Maualuga led 2003 undefeated NCS Champions Eureka team, has the Loggers looked this good going into the season. Led by senior running back Soma Vainuku (6'1"/260 lbs/4.6 40), the cousin of Maualuga, he is threat to take it the distance every time he touches the ball. Vainuku, along side other bruising junior wingback Jeff Faulk, and junior WR Kenny Spaight(who looks to be the next Greg Allen), the Loggers will be explosive with the ball. They will running behind their best O-line in years. On defense, they return 6 star players from a year ago, including four D-1 prospects, Vainuku(LB), Faulk(LB), Dallas Mohorovich(DT), and Erik Sharp(DB). The defense will be fast and hard hitting, many of whom possess the knock-out shot when given the chance. Now obviously, until proven otherwise, Cardinal Newman is the favorite in the NCS. If Eureka though gets past Shasta(Redding) in week 1, and Pleasant Valley(Chico) in week 3, they will be heavily favored in their other eight games. Come NCS time, that means a lot of home games for the Loggers, and a lot of long bus trips for the North Bay and East Bay teams.

4 Div 1 players? I know Eureka is going to be very good this year. I have talked to a few peole who said that RB-Vainuku and DT-Mohorovich are legit D-1 prosects. But 4 guys.......Newman was unbelievable last year and they got 1 D-1 walk on(Gowan) and 1 D-1AA scholarship (Badger). Can you confirm that Vainuku is going to Oregon State?

Sounds good to me. It's always exciting to see more competition in the NCS from the "north" teams. 2003 was an exciting run for Eureka. I remember when Del Norte had an exciting run about the same time for basketball. Always good to see some competitive teams from up north...

Last I heard, Vainuku held offers from Washington, Arizona State, Oregon State, San Diego State, and Hawaii.

Last I heard, Vainuku was considering Washington and Oregon State, and now USC is in the mix. He would be a perfect fit at fullback in their pro-style offense. Sounds like the whole Pac-10 is very interested. Your right, Vainuku and Mohorovich are the main D-1 prospects, but the Faulk kid is only going to be a junior and is already getting a lot of interest from major schools and has tested at the top percentile at all of the underclassmen combine invites. Sharp isn't a Pac-10 player by any means, but is getting love at the UC Davis, Sac State type level.

Vainuku can write his own ticket anywhere. Eureka is going to do well this season. They arnt favored at all against Shasta but I think they will pull it out. Eureka 10-0 in 2009.
