It was made official this week. Jeff Badger was anounced as the starting middle linebacker as a true freshman at Sac St. He beat out the SRJC transfer and another fifth year player. Congrats to Jeff and his family. He worked very hard for this!!!!!!!!!!! Jeff will make his debut for the Hornets at UNLV Saturday September 5th.

ah...beat to the punch.
Sac's head coach said that Jeff was everything they were told he was and more. I really didn't think he'd redshirt. It would have killed him to sit out.
Jeff has set goals for himself and this is just one that he has achieved. His entire family is extremely proud of him.
Best part for me is that I don't have to wait another year to see him back in action!
Now let's see if Randy Wright can earn the starting position by the end of the year.

I have heard from the Sac coaching staff that the coaches liked Biasi as a role player, but his dad was WAY "too" involved...otherwise he would have stayed. They said he was "decent" but was NEVER going to be an everyday player....Now that staff says at least "the SRJC staff can deal with his dad". It's no wonder that Badger is starting because his parents know what the kid ca do. Good for Badger. Great HS player will be an even better Hornet

Great to hear. He is a great kid, hard worker, and is a good football player.
It just makes you wonder if he is starting as a true freshman at Sac State, how come no one else offered him a scholy?
Just another kid from the Redwood Emire that the scouts missed.

Guess I'm buying season ticket this year. Congrats to Jeff and the whole Badger Clan. As a CN alum and a Sacramento resident, I can't wait for the season to start.

Jeff doesn't fit the cookie cutter mold for a college linebacker which is most likely why there were no other offers other than Air Force and Sac. State.
Jeff is stronger and a little faster now than he was going into last year. One thing Jeff is very quick to do and that is reading the play and responding. There's really no way to measure that speed other than to see the player play. Plus Jeff LOVES to hit.
There was another Linebacker years ago about Jeff's size that no one thought was big enough also. He went on to the pros, is in the hall of fame and is the head coach of the 49ers. Not bad for a guy barely 6 feet tall.

I have heard from 3 or 4 sources that Biasi's dad and mom are both overboard. I have friends that lived by them when they had there child at Petaluma high. I have heard that the dad was way to involved and thought his kid was the best thing since sliced bread. Hopefully his parents will learn and just let the kid play and have fun. We don't want another Todd Marinovich.

I predict that Badger will have more tackles than that. The defensive scheme that has been used by Sac State has been the same for a long time. The DC Lou Biaz has been there for 17 years. The middle backer for Sac State's defense has has led the Big Sky in tackles for the last 10 years, because their scheme sets it up that way. They have weaknesses in the secondary, but the Middle Backer will get his tackles. I predict 12-16 total tackles.

It sounds like UNLV's offensive scheme may have Badger on the sideline.

frankinator,
You have a lot of class. Seriously! I don't even like Newman, but I support local kids. The fact that he is playing as a true freshman says a lot. Sac has been down the last few years, but they have a second-year coach who has really turned things around. the score was 10-3 at half...and UNLV is a D-1A school!
