From what I saw tonight, defense shined and everyone needs some work on offense. Petaluma had one good run against Novato and I assume it was Sullivan.
Novato rotated QBs and did well offensively against Healdsburg and San Marin. Novato, Petaluma and Montgomery all had some great plays defensively.
Healdsburg and San Marin struggled on defense but had a few surprises on offense. There is a kid with some wheels on Healdsburg.
My focus was on Novato so I'm curious how the teams did when they weren't playing Novato.

This is how I saw it tonight. Novato was the best TEAM hands down. Montgomery had the best defense but their offense was disgusting. They have taken the biggest, strongest team and turned them into a spread team. Their lineman are so big and strong I couldn't understand why they are not running downhill. If they want any chance of being in the game with Grant next week they are going to have to run right at them and control the clock.. To run the spread against one of the fastest teams in the state will not work.
Petaluma's QB looked really really good. He has a great arm and is a good athlete. I was impressed with Petaluma.
#20 on Novato, linebacker, is a stud. He was running sideline to sideline and crushing people. QB #5 for Novato is a tremendous athlete. Not a true QB but makes things happen.
Healdsburg, didn't look to have many athletes and they gave up 5 TD's in a 10 minutes session to Novato. They graduated a lot of good players and look to need some work to get rolling again.
San Marin, connected on two long touchdown passes against Petaluma. Their new coach definately has them going in the right direction.
Final note- The scrimmage between Novato and Montgomery was fun to watch. Two great defenses really got after each other and they played a scoreless session. The defense was definately ahead of the offense.

I agree with neversawit that novato was best team tonite. montgomery outplayed everyone but novato. offensivly monty played well except against novato. DE #92 made about 5 tackles in viking backfield. for a scrimmage it was very entertaining.

It's hard to say which team was "THE BEST". The schedule had Healdsburg's 1st unit vs. Monty's 1st unit and also had Healdsburg's 1st unit vs. SM 1st unit. Healdsburg flat out rolled SM and got pushed around a bit by Monty. I didn't get to see Petaluma or Novato 1st unit vs. Healdsburg since they went with the 2nds as did Healdsburg when they met (as per the schedule). I did notice that Novato had some of their starters mixed in with what was supposed to be thier 2nds. Novato also played thier entire 1st uint vs. Healdsburg'd 2nds at the JV level when they were supposed to have thier 2nds in....confused yet? I'm not sure what Novato was trying to prove if anything. Back to Varsity level, Petaluma 2nds battled pretty good with Healdsburg's 2nds, the back up QB for Petaluma looked good and handled the ball well. Bottom line...it was a good scrimmage and a chance for everyone to hit someone other than their own team. I wish I could have watched the other teams 1st units a little more but I'm an SCL guy so Healdsburg and Petaluma were the teams I watched. We'll see what happens over the next few weeks. This is how I saw it tonight. Novato was the best TEAM hands down. Montgomery had the best defense but their offense was disgusting. Well I guess we all saw something different. I agree, I thought Montgomery looked terrible on offense. So did many of the coaches scouting in front of me. At the same time Novato couldn't move the ball against Petaluma, which was crushed by San Marin. Novato will coming back to Earth this year. It is nothing like the teams they've had in the past.
To be honest it was a typical scrimmage: everyone/all the teams have a lot of kinks to work out. Scrimmages tell you nothing, really. I do think Montgomery is big, but their line has a lot of work to do. There were a lot of cheap shots from Montgomery as well. A LOT of pushing and leaning on guys after plays had clearly been over. At the same time I thought Montgomery has the best potential to be good, but their offense is absolutely terrible.
Petaluma was banged up. I noticed several starters did not suit up. They seem to have some great skill players, but they just aren't physical enough to compete up front, offensively or defensively. They have put a lot eggs in the basket with this senior class. I think its going to be a very disappointing year for the coaching staff and their players.
The team that really surprised me was San Marin. They seemed to be able to move the ball against everyone. They didn't look spectacular, but they looked like they will be able to compete this year with out being an absolute joke in the MCAL.
I am sure people will disagree with what I saw. But according to the older posts, it looks like we all saw something different.

I was very very disappointed with Petaluma. I just got the tape and it was ugly. Bad news for Sullivan as there o-line looked horrible. I just signed two more colleges to bring my total up to 27. I'll keep you posted on Keys. UNLV and Weber st look to be his options. Sullivan will get a D-2 ride to either Sac or Humboldt.

Gee, can't wait to hear more of bull#&*! You know nothing about these players and their plans. Everyone, his info about keys and sullivan is incorrect. I'm sure it's the same about any player he talks about.

I was at the scrimmage to petaluma only had there whole starting line out in the first scrimmage. and that was the only time sullavan played to. the long run someone mentioned was petalumas QB Russell what a player fast and strong. petalumas o tore up san marin.not one team out there was crisp. but i dont know how many starters were out there the whole time. petaluma had a few starters out simms was one,. Im impressed with petaluma giving every one a chance to prove them self"s and get a chance to play.I heard a parrent talking that said since petaluma was banged up not many starters were going to play much since they have a game next week. but with Johnson and Russell they can throw they hooked up three or four times.every team had some good and bad yesterday it was a scrimmage to see who and were they play on the field. U U CANT juge these teams untill the season starts im sure all will look better in a few weeks. novato diddent impress me looked a little slow but they will get better im sure.

what game were u at? PHS looked bad. San Marin scored deep on them 3 or 4 times in a row. Russell looked terrible throwing the ball. Maybe he can run but, pass no way. PHS got sean and ricky so they will do fine if russell doesn't blow every game for them.

Harsh. Petaluma did get burned 4 times by a surprising San Marin, but they also shut down Novato. does anyone have reports from other scrimmages too?
