Eureka fumbled four times and threw one interception. Yikes. They were suppose to be good I thought.

Without the turnovers it would have been a good game. Dont think Eureka wont win 9 straight.

Eureka should sweep league, regardless of how good Fortuna is. Ukiah and Pleasant Valley games will be big, but Eureka will at least get a home game in the NCS.

It was definitely a long, frustrating, and discouraging night for the Loggers, last friday against Shasta. Before I give details of why the Loggers lost, let me first say that Shasta was the better and more deserving team to win because of their more intense play and all out better execution. Led by Senior running back Evan Taylor, and speedy Junior QB Clay Cavender, they were the thorn in Eureka's side all night. Even as a Eureka fan, it was fun to watch those two play. The Loggers seemed doomed from beginning as Senior captain Dallas Mohorovich(DT, TE, Long snapper) went down about 3-4 plays into the game and did not return to the game(could be out a couple more weeks). His physical presence on the defensive line was sorely missed as Shasta's RB Taylor sliced and diced between the tackles all night long. On offense, Mohorovich's great blocking especially out on the edges for RB's Vainuku and Faulk was now gone. Then his long snapping abilities, which alone could get him a D-1 scholarship, was ever so needed, as the back-up snapped two balls over the punters head, both setting up Shasta touchdowns. Vainuku, really could never get going, outside a 50 yd burst on the opening play of the 2nd half which set up Eureka's only score. He was basically out the rest of the game with cramps.
The nail in the coffin on Eureka's night was midway through the 2nd quarter with Shasta up 14-0 and kicking off after a touchdown. As a Logger fan, I was thinking, well we put together a drive here and cut it to 14-7 at the half and we get the ball coming out the locker room, worst case it's 14-0 and we regroup at the half. We'll the nightmare came true, as Eureka proceded to fumble the next two kickoffs in the span of a few minutes, both leading to Shasta TD's and now it's 28-0 at half and all hope is gone. With that said Eureka did come out with some grit and fire in the second half, and actually could have made it only a two touchdown game halfway through the 3rd quarter but they were stopped inside the 10-yd line after missing two wide-open receivers in the endzone, which crushed any comeback hopes. In the end, the difference in the game was that Shasta sustained drives, made big 3rd down plays throughout the game, capitalized on turnovers, and played with fire and to win from the opening kickoff, and in-turn Eureka did none of these. Which is why in the end, Eureka outgained Shasta in yards 343-341, yet still lost by 4 touchdowns. You can't be denied of points 3 times in the redzone and expect to have any chance of winning. Very discouraging, very disappointing. Well at least we have 9+ more games to get this bad taste out of our mouths. Play at Castlemonte in Oakland this Friday. I heard they are super athletic. Should be interesting. Hope it's not another long Friday night.
