As impressive as this sounds, and it probably does indicate that from top to bottom that the SCL might be ahead of the NBL, all the SCL victories were against the bottom teams in the NBL. With the exception of El Molino, the SCL does not have any relatively weak programs, while Piner, Elsie and Santa Rosa have generally struggled for several years, although Santa Rosa looked like it was improving in the past couple of years. Carillo has been staunchly in the middle of the pack, but they played the top SCL program, Casa, this past week. If you took the top 3 teams from each league, generally considered to be Casa, Petaluma and Analy (this year...it has occasionally been any one of Sonoma, Healdsburg or Windsor in lieu of Analy in the past) vs. Rancho, Newman and Montgomery, do you think that the SCL would be as successful? I don't. As a whole, I would agree the SCL is stronger, but I think that at the top, the NBL still has the advantage.

Guess we'll find out a little more about my assessment this next weekend as Casa and Monty hook up and Rancho and Petaluma do as well. If the SCL prevails in both games, perhaps they are stronger at the top and the bottom, but of course, this remains to be seen.

Most two important NBL/SCL games this week.

I agree with hsfbfan on everything except with Analy being the #3 team in the SCL. I am just not sold on those guys yet, they have played a couple of cream puffs in the pre-season. Plus they did the same thing last year they had a quick start to the year and then came crashing back down to earth and went 0-6.

I know what you mean and it is possible that any one, or more, of Sonoma, Healdsburg and Windsor could step it up and be pretty competitive in league, then it could be a 6 team race, although Casa and Petaluma seem to be a step ahead of the other teams. If Enrion had not gotten injured, I probably would have been switching Windsor and Analy to this point at least.

One good player does not make an entire league superior (say, you would not happen to be related to Sherry would you?).

Casa QB and RB are solid, but the O-Line needs work. Monty will dominate up front. Monty 24 - Casa 14.

I still think Casa is better than them all. Casa had a real shot at winning Div. II this season.

We'll know more about this after this weekend...you could be right, or you could be really jumping the gun there.

I say uncle! SCL is superior to NBL this year...going into league play, 21 total victories for the SCL, 3 for the NBL. Top 2 programs in SCL winning over top 2 (of 3) programs in the NBL. Facts don't lie...BUT still might be that the top 3 in NBL would win out in a round robin of the top 3 in the SCL, which appears to be stacked at the top, very strong in a long middle and very little at the bottom. NBL has strength at the top, mediocre middle, and more extensive (and weaker) bottom.

tho I'm thrilled by SCL wins, I agree in all fairness the top teams of each league are really the same strength, the games were so close. And that's not counting Newman, which I doubt anyone in NBL or SCL could beat anyway.
But the middle and bottom of the NBL very much lacks talent, it's shocking. I doubt SR or Piner could win the NCL I...we're talking schools with a quarter or so of their enrollment. Poor Allen, truly, would not win even the NCL II. Primary reason is demographic change, etc., it's nothing that hasn't already occurred all over urban California (ie Richmond, DeAnza, many Oakland and SF schools, etc.).
In the meantime, I will enjoy it! Enough with the patsies, bring on league play!

well... scobserver, I don't know about CN beating all SCL or NBL schools. Especially Casa, if newman played Casa, Casa would destroy newman. And Rancho and Monty are pretty solid... i don't know....

Calpreps.com has Petaluma #1 in ncs, casa 2, newman 3 and rancho 4 for D2. Pretty impressive the top 4 teams in the ncs are from our empire
