I know it is early and I am making no long term predictions yet, but through two weeks of football it appears that the SCL is stronger than the NBL this year. The SCL can thank P-Town for this as Casa Grande would be my top team and Petaluma second best team overall. The Casa vs. Montgomery game could change my opinion.

You can make a good argument for either league. I agree that both Petaluma schools are solid. However, the other 5 teams in the SCL may be below average this season...I am not sold on Analy yet, & Windsor may be in some trouble w/out Erion.
In the NBL there are probaly on 2 real solid teams as well, Monty & Newman. But, I would still give the edge this season to the NBL b/c I think CN is the best team in the empire & the "middle of the pack" teams are stronger than the SCL's this yr... (I would say teams like Carillo & Rancho are better than Healdsburg & Analy).

We'll know in a few weeks, but I do think the SCL will be better team by team this year over the NBL (excluding CN of course, which the SCL top team will rarely be better, just as with the rest of the NBL)...compare SCL #1 through 7 to NBL #2 through 8, and the SCL has the edge at each one in my opinion! we'll see in casa v monty....

Ill take the SCL over the NBL hands down this season. Petaluma and Casa should be able to beat every NBL team. I think Casa should be able to beat up Monty pretty bad. The big test will be Petaluma vs. Rancho.

I still think in the long run, the NBL is better. Across the board it has talent, you know Newman is better than the way they played on Saturday. Rancho is suprising some people they have played extremely well, Monty is a solid team, Carillo is ok. Also who else besides Casa and Petaluma would compete against ANY of those NBL schools i have listed? Nobody! Windsor heck no, Healdsburg nope, Elmo, Analy, Sanoma, never in a million years. I will say this Casa and Petaluma are legit teams, but as a overall as a league NBL still has more talent.

I'd wait until Casa v. Montgomery and Petaluma v. Rancho until I make claims that the SCL is better than the NBL.

I think this year, the SCL is going to be the better league. Better players overall. Plus the biggest thing is you have 3 new head coaches in the NBL (Piner, SR, Ukiah). All of them are trying to establish themselves. The SCL only has one new unproven head coach (Casa) who is coming inot a program that is established and not trying to rise from the ashes. I think that alone gives the SCL an adavantage

Dude you do know it's "Sonoma" not "Sanoma" right? You know, like the county you live in?

I believe both are close, but the all star game will tell a lot. One thing is without question; SCL players are sexier than NBL players. Always been, always will be !

Ill take the SCL over the NBL hands down this season. Petaluma and Casa should be able to beat every NBL team. I think Casa should be able to beat up Monty pretty bad. The big test will be Petaluma vs. Rancho. It funny, people that don't know much about this game were saying the same thing last year, when Montgomery had just lost to Lincoln, and started off 0-2. Then what happens, a tie. In the past four years we are looking at 1-1-2 record with the last two games being ties. This game has become a preseason rivalry and often helps to establish bragging rights for either league. Both teams will be up for this game and I expect another defensive battle. To say it will be a blow out is a bold statement. As far as what league is better, well who knows? I would say that Monty and the Ranch are #2 & #3 in the NBL this year, so as another poster mentioned, lets just see how the NBL's 2 & 3 do against the SCL's 1 & 2. The jury is still out until 9/25. It should be interesting, but I'll take the NBL for now based on past playoff history. When the SCL wins D2(old 3A) or starts sending teams deeper than the NBL in the playoffs, that is when a league proves it is better.

I Guess, since the last time an SCL team won the RE 3A or any 3A was Petaluma in 1977,,,so yeah the SCL could have a stronger year,,,oh let see every 32 years or so.....yeah they might be due,,,

For me there is one test. An SCL team has to beat Cardinal Newman.

Very true pops. Overall i think the NBL has way more talent. The SCL can only claim the top two(Casa & Petaluma) as being true contenders. After that "I" feel there is a huge drop in competition. The NBL is quite a bit deeper with Newman, Rancho, Monty & Carrillo.
With that said, I believe we can take this one step further. How bout an All-Petaluma team competing against an All-Empire team? I bet ya they'd give it a fair shot! Between Casa & Pet that would be a solid team. Plus, throw in St. Vinny. There is some good, talented football being played down there!
