Now that league play is beginning, just wondering what the thoughts are on how things will play out. In the NBL, it appears to be a clear 3-horse race, with Newman, Rancho and Montgomery. No matter what happens this week when Rancho and Montgomery play, unless one team clearly dominates the other (which I doubt), it does not appear that we will have any clear answer to how this will unfold. Calpreps has Rancho winning 35-22 - not only do i not think this is a likely margin (for either team), but I also do not see that many points being scored...but I've been wrong before! Newman will undoubtedly get their first victory as they are playing Elsie Allen, but pretty much no matter what the margin of victory, they will still be seen as a question mark, and probably will remain so until they play Montgomery in the 4th week of league games...they are playing the bottom 3 (although in reverse order) the next 3 weeks, with Elsie, Piner and then Santa Rosa...and then Montgomery. It could well end up not only a 3 team race, but a 3 team tie at 6-1.
As for the SCL, it appears that Casa and Petaluma are headed for a titanic battle in the
Egg Bowl next week, if both teams hold to form this week. Are the rest of the teams contenders or pretenders? Could it be a 3 team, 4 team, or even 5 team race? Windsor has been playing well, even without Erion. Analy is unscathed, but as usual, is perhaps an unknown due to a pretty soft schedule. Healdsburg too, has done well, but also with a less than challenging pre-season schedule...the result of their game with Analy this week should give a better insight as to where they really are. And even Sonoma might get in the mix, although they have been pretty inconsistent. In all likelihood it will be the last four fighting for 3rd place, and a possible playoff spot, but I would not concede anything to any team until they mix it up amongst themselves. It is well documented that the SCL has completely dominated the NBL so far....now let's see how they do against each other.
It could be a very interesting league season.
