I heard this today at the Golden Bears youth football game from coaches from both Monty and Newman. I heard the classes he teaches at SRHS were given away to other teachers and therefore he wont have a job next semester. He is now looking for teaching/coaching job anywhere that has both open. Can anybody confirm if this is true???

The story is true from what I've heard from sources other than yours. I dont know if he will leave, all I know is that he's not happy about it, and who would.... Personally I back Keefer on whatever he decides to do, what the Santa Rosa admin has done to him is just wrong.

I can confirm his (possibility of a) teaching job went away. That’s all it was was a possibility of a job, I am not sure about him leaving.
SRHS had their opportunity to hire Price, who is a positive, seasoned guy. They chose Keefer and it was an inside deal, driven in large part by principal Goddard. If you read the papers you know that Goddard was just asked to leave. If you've spent 10 minutes with Goddard you know he is an absolute tool. SRHS was a unique school with a positive culture under Negri and Goddard got in and immediately tried to run it like a prison camp. It's great news for the kids that Goddard's out.
Keefer is a good football guy, but he's running the team from a negative standpoint. The guy just seems to always assume the worst about situations. He is assuming that all the kids are bad and putting good kids on the defensive by treating everyone like they are a discipline problem. He nearly suspended three kids for hanging out at the same house because he suspected it was a "party" and his kids are forbidden from attending parties. There was no incident. He just felt like his kids were at a party. He suspended practice until the kids ratted out any kids who may have been at a party.
Thankfully the parents straightened him out on that one, but that's the mind set the guy brings. Keefer Sr. (DB coach and father) is an absolute bully with the kids and walks around looking for reasons to berate them and discipline them. Kids are afraid to look the guy in the eye.
The rest of the staff is good and keeping a positive attitude with the kids, but the kids on the team that I've talked to are pretty miserable. They like the football focus, but the Keefers keep the kids on the defensive and nervous most of the time. Not necessary.
I don’t know if Goddard poisoned Keefer about running the team like a prison camp, but Hopefully he will figure out that he (and his father) don't need to intimidate and demoralize the kids to whip them into shape and inspire respect, etc.
With Goddard gone, SRHS has a shot at getting back to being a great school. If they lost Keefer, it's no set back.
As for him losing his job, Ben, the planet I'm living on has teachers with experience losing their jobs all over the place. You think they are screwing him because their budgets have been decimated and they weren't able to follow through on their intent to give him a job if they could? There were no guarantees unless they were under the table. Who are they supposed to fire to give Keefer a job?
Price didn't need a job and would have been a better choice. And, as of today, no one at SRHS has called Price to let him know that he DIDN'T get the job (and maybe thank him for the nearly two years he volunteered his time as a coach for SRHS).

No one should be fired to give Keefer a job, but someone else shouldnt have been hired for the job Keefer was going to be given.
Nothing against you, but as for everything else you said, I couldn't disagree more. I think Keefer is the future of the Santa Rosa program and dont know where they will go after this season if he decides to leave.

From what I heard Keefer was brought on to teach a couple of classes as a student-teacher, but there were some credentialed, long time teachers who needed an extra class to fill there schedule... so Keefer lost out. Keefer & staff seems like they are doing a good job and I hope it works out at SR.

Dear George: I find your comments to be completely irresponsible. First of all, I'm not sure who you think Biggy is, but it isn't me.
Contrary to your comments, I respect and support Coach Keefer. I wish him all the success and admire what he has done so far this year.
Maybe you should get your facts straight before you make accusations.
PS - We have a bye this week, but thank you anyway.

Thanks, Ben!
Too bad George had to hide behind his keyboard and delete his post where he made false accusations about me.

I agree this whole thing seems to be a mess. I think bkbroiler brings up a good point of honestly who would want a job at SRHS? I think I have a couple of reasons, they have a great staduim ( I know the name I just don't want to look like an idiot and spell it wrong.) Also SRHS fans are Great! doing GOTW with Ben the two best fan bases I have seen so far were Petaluma, and Santa Rosa. The stadium was packed, the fans were loud, it always helps to have a good 12th man.

bk why would you mention San Marin in those possible opening positions? I hear that Hickey is doing a good job, no?

And why mention Carrillo for a coaching job, they have a nice line of coaches. They may not be at the top like Monty and Newman but the coaches there are very respectable to the kids (JV & Varsity).
For coaching jobs -- go to some of those Golden Bear games (Junior Midgets) and take a look at their coaching staff --- Some great coaches out there.

Im with BK, that leaves Santa Rosa in a terrible spot! If Keefer leaves, theres a good chance he will take almost (if not all) of his coaching staff with him. After that, who would WANT to coach at Santa Rosa, where the admin doesnt seem to support the coaches?
From what I've heard, the Carrillo job has come into view after an 0-4 start. The 74 point slaughter or Elsie Allen doesnt help matters. Now dont shoot the messenger, I'm just passing along what I've heard from a fan and coaching base.
I wouldnt think San Marin would open up anytime soon. Its a sad thing, but perhaps San Rafael might open up... Amil Hall is a class act, works very hard but has little support from the school and has his some bad luck. I hope he continues to coach there, but look at what happened to Mazi after just 2 years... (Big mistake!)
I think Monty and Petaluma might open up after this season, but I would think those jobs are going to beeventually filled by in house coaches that are already involved with the program.

as for Keefer not getting a teaching positon....I would not read too much into that, lots of early career teachers are not getting re hired at the moment at many districts. It did not help that he got hired by the former boss--just as in any job. Also, school districts have to balance hiring people who are talented coaches and also talented teachers. I have no knowledge of Keefer or SRHS and one side or the other could indeed be "at fault"--but want to point out that legitimate and routine hiring practices may also be playing into this.

I think Hickey is doing a great job at San Marin with the resources hes been given to work with. I can only hope he is able to stay with the program and specifically run it the way HE wants. Keefer to Ukiah? Never even thought of that, but I guess why not. I dont know about El Mo, its almost if the norm has become 2-8. Who knows with Carrillo, but its getting old. should Carrillo beat Ukiah and Newman that will put them at 5-5, which might not be enough to make playoffs. The win against Rancho would help because they would get selected over Rancho. On the other hand, losing the final three games would put Carrillo at 3-7.

What makes you think Ellison from Petaluma is leaving ? He is only in his early sixties he seems to love what he is doing. If the job did open it would most likely go to Ricky Krist don't u think?
