In the NCS, taking Marin Catholic for example, our section champs will play in a state bowl exactly one week after their section championship victory. Our NCS playoffs are four weeks long...
The SJS doesnt like that... The NCS has a BYE week in the season, and longer playoffs then the SJS. Beginning in 2010, the SJS will be keeping their playoffs to three weeks per division, and will cut out their BYE week.
This will leave a solid two weeks between a section championship game and the state bowl games.
The SJS has announced this period as hope for a real state tournament, in hoping for other sections to follow their lead.

Agree completely, Ben......if we're going to have a so called state championship, then absolutely it needs to be a real tournament. Four weeks of playoffs just to get a section champ in each division is ridiculous. These bowls are bogus--and I don't care how close the games may turn out to be.
And what's with the "Week 0" that popped up a few years ago? Start the season that much earlier--a lot of schools nowadays are back in session mid August/by August 20 or so anyway.

Very true, some schools begin playing in August. Keeping the season to 10 weeks, then an 8 team bracket would be okay if thats for the state deal. If not, I'm in favor of expanding playoffs to include more teams.
