Hey, you all can thank me....I enjoy digging through the NCS board of managers minutes on their website and have come up with some curious items. These from the April 26 minutes...yet another service I provide to you forum readers.
NCS salaries--I've complained bout this before--why does NCS keep adding playoff teams, other than to stoke coaches' egos? Cuz they have to pay these salaries, excludes benefits...
Commissioner 132k per year; associate commish 115k, and assistant commissh 91k ...everyone is a commissioner, yippee!
Okay, I am sure it is not an easy job, and very time consuming, but really now! Minutes "explain" salaries based on survey of "similar" jobs at 10 school districts, all of them in the east bay, including high budget Acalanes.
Then, there is this expense, which really burns me: 67g each year alone in RENT! Of course, real estate in San Ramon is expensive, which brings up the question: WHY put the office in the HIGHEST COST region in the entire NCS?
The solution, as I have said before--move the office to Willits, where you can BUY an entire office building for what they pay in rent each year, and then reduce everyone's salaries by half, where all three commissioners could still live and act like lords in low-cost Mendocino County.
Interesting figures about football playoff revenue. People are literally not buying into all this ridiculous playoff expansion. Profit this year was only 75 percent of what was projected, with ticket income down 11 percent. (So was basketball, down 11 percent). NCS football profit was $194k, basketball 144k, and soccer 109k-- up 22 percent. That's impressive for soccer, considering many schools play in the winter so there are fewer evening playoff games and it is often cold and rainy when they do play. Although, football generates much more playoff income 392k, vs. soccer's 174k, but football's expenses are almost three times that of soccer's. The minutes say NCS will reduce some of the reimbursements to schools for football playoffs--hopefully it still covers their costs, i could see a school declining to enter the playoffs if the school has to pay for a long trip just for a mismatch.
Then the NCS voted to support a CIF proposal to install a "mercy rule" for footall. I thought I had seen some news on this recently--does anyone know the latest? The minutes outline a lot of different proposals on how this might work, including a running clock at various points or even stopping the game at 35 point lead.
Okay, who shares my interest in this and wants to comment? C'mon, good stuff, it's still summer, I wanna hear some opinions!
