Everyone remember the Eureka that would win league or have a nice record then get beat in the first round of the playoffs if they even were selected?
Yeah... Oh those days are gone from what I saw today.
They looked like a strong tight team with a mission and some talent to make it happen. I had the pleasure of speaking with Coach Montana about their 2010 outlook. The Wing-T could very well move towards an NCS Div. III title if they remain focused and healthy.
The season opener against Piner will benefit both teams but Eureka will more than likely take a victory as Piner enters as huge underdogs. Overall Eureka will most likely get a win, and Piner will get some valuable experience.
The Eureka vs Shasta game is going to be big!

Eureka could run the table to the playoffs and do some damage again. They return quite a bit of talent, including most skill players, headed by: Jeff Faulk, Sr, RB/LB, 1st team all league; Kenny Spaight, Sr/WR/DB; John DeMartini, Sr, QB, and Zach Wilkenson, RB/DB, 1st team all league. They run the Wing T quite well. It would be great if they came down south further and played some of the SF Bay area teams. Their pre-playoff schedule seems rather week in general, and it's kind of tough to tell how good they are. Seems though that this coming season, they could be up to last season's level.

Their league schedule cant be helped but they tend to have some tough non-league opponents.
Piner isnt a traditionally strong program but they are Div. III and will be better than 2-8 this season. Besides Piner would travel up north and thats big for Eureka
Shasta is always a good program and is a tough Div. I school that traditionally finishes with a good record.
Castlemont is in the second season and will travel to Eureka.
Ukiah is at least closer than the Bay Area and will travel as well.
It seems their schedule is at the mercy of the willingness of teams willing to travel north.
