Yes, love that high school football, can't wait.....
disagree that NBL will be a "good race".... if you mean two teams who won't get challenged by the other six is a "race" then I guess so, and that's giving Monty more credit than might be due this coming season....beyond that single game, the NBL season will be a battle for third and deciding who will win the second division...
SCL "race" not much better with Casa big favorite and Windsor looking strong, though league has a little more balance with Petaluma and Healdsburg capable of being competitive.
But I say the true spirit of high school football lies throughout all teams.... a school that still pulls in good sized crowds and players going all out to win, even without a playoff seeding or psuedo-bowl at stake.............that is where you can really fall in love with high school football. Cheers to the NCL and smaller schools, too, I think that's where it is best exemplifeid nowadays!

Dont count out Rancho this year. Alot of good talent returning including two quality QB's and an outstanding tailback. I see Rancho getting second to Newman this year in NBL and maybe winning DIV 2 section title.

Yeah I agree with hankremington on Rancho, they have a great little tailback in Dworkin and a good QB in Gore that can make somethings happen on the offensive end. Keep in mind that this team was a yard away from beating the SCL champion Petaluma Trojans in that playoff game last season. But the thing I don't agree with hankremington on is the first place NBL team. Sorry Newman fans, I just don't see it happening this season I think you're going to see Monty win the NBL again this season. The only way I see Newman winning the NBL is if they can get there spread offense working again like they have in years past.

With the running game Newman has/is going to have, I don't see why their passing game has to be in the spread. Newman has several solid RBs this season so I wouldn't be surprised to see some more Power-I or Toss offense.

Ben maybe you are right about the running game, they do have the players to run the football. But if I were Newman I would still run the spread. Just maybe just a little different spin on it, I would run it just like the Oregon Ducks do. It still has you're typical spread allignment with 4 WRs and the QB in the gun. But it is a run first, pass second offense. The base play is a zone-read option. This offense also uses a lot of running plays desiged to get a tailback to the outside with running plays that go off the right tackle and pulls a guard from the left, It also uses a lot of WR Jet Sweeps. When run right, and with the right players to run it, this offense is almost impossible to stop.

It the talent suits the team, Piner should have a pretty good offense and playbook a lot like your talking about.

Yeah Piner would be a good example from what I've heard, I have never seen there new offense in action. Also this offense can be a little bit flexiable, it is totally dependent on the QB. Take Oregon from last season, they had a QB who could do it all. So it was a pretty balanced attack. But when the QB is better in the passing game, or better running the ball, the offensive philosiphy changes. It all depends on what the QB is best at.

Max Preps has the top 25 out for the North coast section and this is how we Rate.... 3 Eureka (CA) 4 Marin Catholic (Kentfield, CA) 6 Casa Grande (Petaluma, CA) 11 Montgomery (Santa Rosa, CA) 14 Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park, CA) 17 Petaluma (CA) 21 Novato (CA) 22 Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa, CA) not too bad........................Come on football can'y wait !

I think Max Preps has Petaluma over-rated & Cardinal Newman under-rated...but that's what pre-season rankings are all about - getting the discussion going.

2 teams are rated way to high and 2 completely underrated in my opinion. I have seen Newman, Novato, and Montgomery in action this summer. I saw Petaluma's jv team last year and know they lost 22 starters from Varsity. Petaluma should not even be ranked. Montgomery is not as good as last year and they should be rated around 22. Novato easily handled Montgomery in two separate scrimmages this summer and Novato should be in top 10. Cardinal Newman was so impressive at the Sac State Camp and they should be in the top 5. I think Rancho and Casa were rated pretty acurately.

Is this for the whole NCS? If it is it seems Eureka, MC and Casa are all rated a little high. I'd assume DLS is #1 and Pitt or MV #2? Seems they just looked at who won the NCS last year and threw them in the top 5? But as mentioned it makes for good conversation.

Eureka will be up there, they return a very powerful bunch of players and should go 9-1 in the regular season. Novato will be up there too but their non-league schedule could put them at 1-2 heading into league play. Monty should go 2-1 in non-league and should finish in the top three in league. Must be nice to have a 7-3 record all but wrapped up before the season starts. Newman is Newman (with Cronin as HC) so they will finish towards the top of league and should win at least one non-league game. With the players they have, the coaches and facilities, and the teams they play each season, its nearly impossible to tell exectly how well they will do. Petaluma will be rebuilding and nothing less. I really look forward to seeing Newman and Marin Catholic in the playoffs.

Ben I would not count Novato out of the playoff picture. As you know because the game was the game of the week it took a blown pass coverage for MC to pull out the 4 point win over Novato at home. This years game is back at Novato were the Hornets always play tough. Also even if they start the MCAL 0-3 which is possible given the high level teams Coach Brackett has picked I think that will give them the edge over MC in the experiance factor.

alot of the D3 teams are so even in talent level that i think just making the playoffs is the key and we should see some upsets and great matchups in the qtrs/semis
