Novato will be at Petaluma Friday. If it is typical of years past, Healdsburg and San Marin will be there too.

I was at the Petaluma/Healdsburg/Montgomery/Novato/San Marin scrimmage last night. I didn't stay for the entire thing, but a few limited observations:
1. Monty was dominated by Novato on both sides of the ball during their first matchup. Not sure if it was due to Novato being so good or Monty having a lot of work to do. But what I was anticipating as the best matchup of the 5 teams looked rather lopsided.
2. Healdsburg is once again Healdsburg. Meaning despite losing a number of it's players to graduation, they are still undersized, fast, and relentless.
3. Petaluma looked okay. Unfortunately I only got to see their first team offense and defense go up against San Marin, who was likely the weakest of the 5 teams. Petaluma's defense looked solid and their offense moved the ball. However, I'm not sure if this was by design or if how the QB was reading the defense, but the fullback got the ball on what seemed like 90% of the run plays. It was generally effective but I was hoping to see more of Stephen McElroy at HB, who I've heard good things about.
4. Not only was Novato the most impressive team from the group, but their JV team looked good too.
5. I'm ready for some real football!

Novato will make an impression this year but I see 2011 to be their year to shine for this group of kids.
