Ben sounds great to put Calistoga in NCLI, and Tomales in NCLII, but but most of those schools are over 400 studentsand that makes a difference to a school like Tomales with 180 students, even Calistoga with 250. And as cotterstone said this change was made for all of the sports programs not just football. I would like to see a league someday created with these schools SV, St Elizabeth, Salesian, Justin Sienna, Berean Christian, Valley Christian. That would be some good football!

True true, sure would be easier though. I guess an complete realignment is needed then.

Dynomite completely agree on this new alingnment for SV. Come on, how about challenging yourself? Cotterstone what league do you think they should be in? I'll flat out tell you it should be the SCL! Would they have a chance for the league title? No way. But they compete and get better by playing bigger schools. This has been done before with good success (see Justin Sienna or Valley Christian). Since SV has had inquiries from the SCL within the past year to join, I don't know why they wouldnt. So from a logical and logistical point, yeah that is where they should be playing.
Since it is for all sports it would be even better. Have you seen who their girls teams (volleyball, basketball, softball etc) play in the pre-season? Generally looks like an SCL/NBL/MCAL schedule and they have success. Hell, Phillips their head basketball coach has been public about his desire to join the SCL.
I would rather see a program push itself to get better rather than to sit back and be complacent about boatracing teams that don't have a chance. I do realize football is a numbers game and it would be tougher for a school of 350 to compete with the Windsors and Casa's (neither should ElM or H town, but that is a different argument. Still for the overall success of the athletic program they should want to pursue the best option. I would rather lose 30-7 and get better and drive within 30 minutes, than go 2hours to beat someone 55-0.
Since it is for all sports, I think it is even better.

Hardhitter, Personally I am all for that type of league. Great small school match ups. This scenario came up a few years back and was turned down for reasons I don't know. Anyways let's all enjoy the coming year and cheer on our teams and then cheer the local teams in playoffs. Go Redwood Empire and in the end Nor Cal sports.

Bella, That is a great post and when you talk about phillips yes he would love to play in the scl. Heck Sv's new varsity girls basketball coach is scheduling d2 and d3 teams during the season. Jim and Lance are both great bball coaches. Just to get it right SV was not officially asked to join the scl within the past year. There was an opening and some SV coaches thought it might be a good option and others not so much and that was all. I am all for pushing for better competition and the league that hardhitter mentioned would be the best option. But we can talk all we want but it is in the hands of the ncs.

St. Vincent in the SCL? I hear ya about pushing it but they have under 400 students. With Newman in the NBL, they have ~400+ only boys so its a long shot but Newman has been and will be able to play at that level in every sport. St. Vincent, regardless of who they schedule is not a program that can or has continuously played at the Nor-Cal or state level. St. Vincent didnt win league last season, so why should they be in the SCL with Windsor and Casa Grande? I doubt St. Vincent could beat Healdsburg and they are the second smallest in the SCL.

and Co-ed, so about 150 can play football, thats a little low for the SCL.

and Co-ed, so about 150 can play football, thats a little low for the SCL. SV could compete in MCAL, 1/2 their students are from Novato........SV would never win the MCAL but they could follow JS and be a competitive program in a league like MCAL and logistically it would be easy to do Petaluma-Napa to Mill Valley on the southern end

I just don't understand why they would change at all, unless it was to get out of the NCL Interlock. They play in such a competitive D. 4 league and do well, it's a shame they would opt out of it.
Cotter, I understand you are defensive of SV and must know the inner workings of this process. Tell me, if its not just for Football, how well do the other sports at the school compete in the NCL? I dont follow the school that closely but it seems they always do well.
Also, the "new" NCL II consists of teams nowhere near SV's enrollment area. What will they gain enrollment wise? Atleast the highly competitive NCL I attracts students who want to play for an over-achieving, successful program. (Cardinal Newman, for example). I would think in this poor economy a private school would look at this very hard.
I am in no way trying to bash St. Vincent, I just think they are under-achieving.

Dynomite, SV tried to get into 2 different leagues south of petaluma and were voted out. The schools did not like driving up the corridor which I think is a poor excuse. Also the way the ncs works is that if there are a hardship team that will lose all there opponents then the ncs looks at changing leagues up. Your argument is well grounded about especially football and baseball being one sided (no disrespect to any team) but the rest of the sports programs will have good competition. Believe me not every coach is on board and I still would love to have gotten into a league with Justin Sienna but that wont happen. Maybe there will be a last minute change of heart on the 9th. And you have always been about the purity of the game and I recognize that.
As for how well the other sports do in the ncl1 south. This year I think that Boys bball will win league, Girls bball will take second. Both soccer teams will win league and softball will be one or two but hey I'm just guessing.
Good luck to everyone and their teams with no injuries.

Yeah that is a poor excuse to exclude St. Vincent. I can understand not wanting to play Eureka but Petaluma isnt that far of a drive.
