What a huge first win for Coach Davis. To beat a local powerhouse like Montgomery in a first game as a varsity coach is huge for the Windsor program and team confidence. I was very impressed by Windsor's play calling and their offensive execution. Their QB has been well coached and is able to pick up the reads and make good decisions with the ball. They will be a force this season as long as they keep working hard. They have talent, speed, and size. Their O & D lines look well conditioned. Their D- line was impressive giving Montgomery's O-line fits and in many ways played a huge role in winning the game. Their backs and receivers look good all though there were some dropped passes.
Montgomery has a lot of work to do. Their D looks soft and later I found out that some players were lost to grades. One of those players that was roaming the sidelines with just a jersey looked like a beast. With that said, the supposed strength of the team, the O-line looked like they were out of shape or taking plays off. Late in the 4th quarter on 4th down, their O-line had a surge and blew Windsor's D- line off the ball, and I was thinking with their size they should be doing that all game long. However they only did this a couple of times in the game. If Montgomery is going to have a good season the O-line needs to step up, get in better shape, and play to their ability. Their were some phantom calls on Montgomery that took back a 60 yd TD and an interception that Windsor later scored on. I don't think one penalty was called on Windsor, and Montgomery was called for about 10-15.
Overall I give Windsor an A-/B+, and Montgomery a C-/D+. Montgomery's would be lower, but I thought they could have won without the penalties. Clearly Windsor is much more disciplined on the field and earned a hard fought strong win. Congratulations Coach Davis.
