They have scored 71 points in the first quarter alone against Piner and Castlemont combined.
Anyone else thinking it would be great to see them in Div. II? Im not sure about the rules but it used to be teams could petition up during the early part of the season.

Just looked at the article from the Times Standard in Eureka and the total yards allowed by Eurekas defense was 20! Thats right, Castlemont had 20 yards of total offense!!

I say leave them in Div III they would be a slam dunk for a bowl Birth. This is there year let them go......
If they Stayed Div III and MC stays Div IV the North Bay could be very well represented

Teams have until Sept 17 (end of this week), to petition their playoff divisions. Teams that petitioned up to DII last season (i.e. Cardnal Newman) must petition again to play their natural enrollment DIII. With the new state bowl division rules, it makes little sense for teams to play in a hgher division.

If Newman in D 3, Eureka not a slam dunk to get to state "bowl" at all, CN still heads above everyone else. But would love to see it, if EHS is section champ this year and the state won't invite them, then Eureka will NEVER be invited and they and the HDNL might as well go join the Oregon association or merge with the North section and make their own separate CIF.

It's a long way to the state bowl, Eureka's strength of schedule for nonleague isn't very strong which will hurt their chances unless they run the table and go undefeated. Even then, if Seaside High-CCS runs the table or has one loss, they will have a good shot as they were passed up last season. If Marin Catholic petitions DIII, you probably have to include them in the equation as a favorite. Also Bishop ODowd with the new coach, and the talent they have, looks like a tougher opponent than the past. Also Encinal is in the equation which is a very good program, and Miramonte. Long season to go yet. Eureka looks very good though. They just need to schedule some tougher opponents early in the season.

Cardinal Newman has a very tough game this week against Valley Christian that was just ranked #9 uin the state, and Palma is much better than though having tied Saint Francis in a game their defense dominated. It will tke an undefeated or one loss team to get to the bowl this year.

Newmans defense is though and could be one of the top in the Empire. I'd put them up there with Eureka, Casa, and Windsor. Valley Christians offense is something else and I dont know if Newman can stand up to that. On the other side of the ball Newmans offense was really slow against CC. Not only will Newmans defense need to be perfects but their offense will need to score on a state ranked team.

I agree. Cardinal Newman would be a shoe in if they win these games and run the table. They could also get in lets say they win against Palma and Seaside loses to Palma and Newman runs the table. There are scenrios. Seaised was expected to be heavy favorite over Palma in preseason, but after first game-Palma is much tougher than tought they would be. Cardinal Neman still has to petition to play D3 by this Friday, otherwise they will be in D2. It would be interesting to hear on this board if CN and Marin Catholic petition D3.
VC's more than Marshall. The other RB is very fast and the fullback is as well. Their QB is good as are the receivers. Their coach is one of the top in CCS for many years. Only team I have seen that has dominated their line or given their offense fits was when they had a two year series with Grant High. One year the game was relatively close, the first year the Grant line was just a tad too much. Cardinal Newman will need to be able to pass the ball against their defense. They are strong up the middle and linebackers are physical with physical DBs. They will be faster than Newman, but if Newman defense steps up of course they could be in this game. This will be the most talented team Newman has played with the exception of the state bowl. Battle of the trenches will be a factor.
