The NCL already has plans (horrible, horrible plans) to realign so Elsie won't be getting in on that action. By the looks of it, the NCL 1 North and South will be consolodated with Upper Lake and St. Vincent dropping down into the NCL 2, most of the NCL 2 teams dropping into the recreated NCL 3.
My personal qualm is that the NCL 1 will be a 7 team league, with teams like Fort Bragg, Middletown, Clear Lake and Cloverdale together. Hypothetically, if for whatever reason Elsie moved towards the NCL 1 (even if just for football), the North and South divisions could still work! But that makes too sense it won't happen.

So basically the NCS is undoing the NCL 'North and South' division they made a few years ago?

Yeah, they finally decided to do something about the NCL 2's low enrollments. NCL 3 will be a 9 man football league (in addition to other sports). NCL 2 teams are lower enrollment schools who have proven they can compete but not at the level of those at the NCL 1. The article link is here: napavalleyregister.com/sports/high-school/article_8793a57c-c6d9-11df-a44c-001cc4c002e0.htmlFrom what the article says, it opens up the schedule for two more nonleague opponents. Elsie would be a good fit for some schools, basially on par with St. Helena or Upper Lake. However, most of the NCL schools, so I've learned, don't want to deal with schools like Elsie or the like, citing the ease and familiarity with NCL foes rather than new opponents. Teams like Drake and EA would be great fits on paper but I'm not sure if they'll be tapped to fill those spots.

Not sure why some of the NCL scools wouldn't want to play Elsie. Ease and familiarity? Cloverdale has played them several times in the past few years. Seems like it would be a no brainer for them and say St. Vincent. Would you rather commute to SR or make a long treak somewhere else.
