I believe the Windsor game you mentioned is part of the Battle at the Capital event that Cardinal Newman participated in two years ago. I could be wrong, but that means that it is at Del Oro High School in Loomis. Westlake is playing Del Oro in the event, but it is not at Westlake.
For that matter, I'm really excited to see Rancho-Oakdale. If you ever take a look at the Modesto Bee, the guys down there really like to claim superiority over the football played here as a result of Escalon being chosen over Newman last year and Rancho being wiped out by Oakdale this year. I'd love to see the Cougars take it to those guys. We have good football up here, and a Rancho win over Oakdale and Windsor over Upland might give more recognition to that outside of Newman's respected program.

Casa Grande-Eureka is also exciting for that matter. Eureka has a great program, but has a hard time getting good competition for preseason. After destroying Piner the past couple seasons, I'm glad a good team stepped up to play them.

They changed the Battle at the Capital to the Battle for Veterans. It is now a 2 weekend event with the first week played in Loomis. it is kind of like a SFL versus Marmonte league challenge with a few other teams mixed in. Aug 24/25th Del Oro will play Oaks X-ian, Granite Bay will play Westlake and Franklin (Elk Grove) plays Thousand Oaks. The following week (Sep 1st/2nd they go down south (Westlake is hosting). Oakdale plays Oceanside, DO plays Westlake, Granite Bay plays Oaks and Windsor will play Upland. There are a few other games mixed in as well I believe. Actually kind of a cool format that has a lot of quality teams and can be a NorCal / Socal early bragging rights battle. Plus the best part (IMO) is it is a benefit for wounded warriors!

I'm looking forward to a contest I was able to get put on the schedule: Week#2, Napa @ Casa Grande. I'm working with the Casa and Napa admin to get this contest an every year thing which will help establish a new rivalry after the end of the Egg Bowl.

I stand corrected. That will be a really cool opportunity for them!

You makke it sound like it's over LOL. Isn't it only a 2 year hiatus??......right!

LOL yeah, only a two year hiatus...
So if you were on the Casa Grande side of this issue and the Petaluma coach/admin out of no where decides to stop the rivalry for no reason would you really play them after only a year or two off?
This contest is a very important community event that Petaluma burned a lot of bridges in while in the process of 'backing' out. I highly doubt the Egg Bowl will continue in two years. Unlike what has been said by Petaluma, personal foul penalties has nothing to do with the reason the Bowl was called off.

Really looking forward to seeing how Windsor will do VS Upland. And Casa VS Napa that could be a great game year in year out. I remember these 2 teams playing a 2 game series in 2008-2009. Napa winning at Napa and Casa winning the following year at Casa in a shoot out. Who else is Windsor, Casa, Newman, Rancho facing in 2012? I think these will be the top 4 teams with Montgomery and Maria Carrillo middle of the pack.

I hope that Santa Rosa and Piner can agree to keep playing in the preseason now that they are in different leagues. This game has been very competitive the last few years.

Your tellin me Casa Grande's lack of class hasn't contributed to this decision as well? Don't even begin to tell me these teams are of the same cloth. Petaluma holds a great respect as a quality opponent, especially in the preseason because opposing coaches feel confident their players will not be confronted with foul play. They shouldn't have any problem with "burned bridges". The last blatant personal foul I have seen from Petaluma was that big personal foul in the 2003 ( I think?) Egg Bowl. That being said, when played as cleanly as possible, its a great game that should have never been cancelled.

Is it too late to hope for Newman-Marin Catholic? Does Marin Catholic have a whole to fill? I know Newman's third preseason game is up in the air. I'd like to have Marin Catholic or Sacred Heart Cathedral on the schedule. I think those would be good, fun games. As a player, I always wanted to try keeping up with De La Salle. It's a dream, I know, but they used to play Palma in competitive games. Maybe once they tire out of beating up St. Mary's Stockton, they'll put Newman on the schedule just to try it out. I'd love that.
