hahaha....secret code. Thats funny stuff. I thought Bruno's quotes in Padecky's blog were interesting regarding this topic. Pretty much admitted that the fear of losing some games and the backlash from not going undefeated every year caused their coaches to sell their soul and practice year round. Said it in black and white. At least he admits it. Its a sad but true phenomenon. Maybe Padecky can get us the secret code! hahaha
Here...I figured I would add this so the newman people don't come back at me with anger.....this is the quotes from Padecky's article.
“I remember when Paul (Cronin, Newman’s head football coach) took over,” Bruno said. “We looked around, saw how people were practicing year-round and we said to each other, ‘This is not right. This is wrong.’”
Newman football, of course, has year-round training like almost every other high school.
“You have no choice because you want to be competitive,” Bruno said. “I know right now Palma (which Newman beat last year and is on this year’s schedule) is salivating and doing everything it can to get ready to beat us. I know Del Oro (same situation) was embarrassed last year and can’t wait to get to us again. If we are not at the top of our game with those schools, we’ll get killed. If we go 8-3 for a season, we’ll get hammered.”

Newmanfan, I didn't mean to offend. I just thought the comments were funny and they made me laugh. Come on, you have to admit that secret code thing was pretty good.

"Secret code is state championships" I dont remember you all winning one. Great effort getting there but second place is like kissing your sister. By the way...I was told that almost half of last years CN team lived in the Windsor city limits, If they had not been recruited could you imagine how good Windsor would have been......SECRET CODE sounds about right to me.

Redwood that is funny.. It will be intresting to see Windsor in the next few years. They have been able to keep a majority of their player (from Newman's reach) and I suspect it to show for both Windsor and Newman.

I dont recall Redwood reaching the State Championship, or even the second round of the playoffs ever, so the Redwood program has no room to speak. Cardinal Newman is a private school that prides themselves on having more funds and support for their sports programs than state funded public schools. Parents specifically pay for this determination and concept of 'keeping your eye on the ball'. Just because Newman is private doesnt mean they recruit, I couldnt careless where their students live. They (and their parents) all have different reasons for going to Newman, some academic, some athletic. Newman has made it to the state championship twice in three years; thats success.

I have a family member on the team. There are no offseason training session besides weights. If there were a Secret Code I would say it would be "Fundamentals" . These players can execute and get the job done at whatever position they play. Cronin and staff do an excellent job.

Secret word at Newman is "Control". You can only be victorious if you control the situation. Same rules on the football field as the battle field.

Thanks for all the hints guys. I am writing all this down. "State Championships", "Fundamentals", "Control". I wish I had thought of all these things for my players. Makes total sense why CN is so successful now. Its not cause of the recruiting or year round practicing. As Ben indicated, they dont need those things because they are the only team in the County with.........."Control". Ben you really need to spend some time with the other teams in the county. Get a better feel for them, and tell them about this whole "control" secret.
Just messing with you Ben. Trying to have a little fun.

Control the situation means you control the outcome. Let the opposition get angry and lose all their energy and motivation, just maintain control and things will conclude in your favor (most of the time).
Cronin did a very good job in coaching his team to control their contest against Oaks Christian. Though his one may have not finished with Newman on top, 27-20 in OT is a leap from the expected 42-7.
