You play athletic director (or principal or superintendent or school trustee or NCS administrator.)
What to do about Analy versus Elsie Allen game, which shapes to be a monumental mismatch?
We shouldn't be surprised if more such situations crop up--how to handle in the future?

Until the NCS changes it is a league game so need to play it. here is my take: Analy does not gain anything by winning by 70 a win is a win as far as NCS and league go. So after up by a few scores sit your firsts and in some cases sit your seconds it may be the first quarter. play all back ups and (prior to game day between AD's/NCS officials) agree to freeze the score at 35 point lead and play it out with a running clock.

Gotta play it. Can't teach the kids to be quitters. Agree though as soon as it hits 35 start a running clock.

Game has got to be played, Elsie Allen need to look into playing in a flag football league and stop insulting the sport of tackle football

Play the game- Play tough D and pitch the shutout... If the other team doesn't score then you can't lose... Put the skilled guys on the line and let the big boys pound the rock to the tune of 99 points... Pay off the Linemen with some touchdowns. It'll payoff in the playoffs when they face a little adversity and the unsung heroes in the trenches will remember it for the rest of their lives. "FEEL THE POWER"

Don't be disrespectful to the EA kids and coaches who put in time and energy daily. It's not our job to discuss this stuff, many EA players and coaches are on this website and to see this could be detrimental to the program. Coaches and former players across Sonoma County cheer for EA every week an praise the coaches and players! GO COMPETE!
GO EA! Good Luck!

They are so uncompetitive that all the are doing is exposing their overwhelmed kids to injuries. You lose every game by 8-12 scores on average all your doing is exposing this kids to a literal beating and injuries. In all seriousness why not play 8 or 6 man football?

There are suggestions to start the running clock after 1st quarter by mutual agreement--is this allowable by rules--anyone know when this has happened?
Aren't the officials authorized to order a running clock anytime they see fit--or even stop a game anytime they see fit? Or do they have to have coaches' consent?

I agree raypower and mc415 are being harsh, but disagree that it shouldn't be discussed. Blowouts are getting to be a major problem, and if we want to encourage discussion about high school football, you can't just ignore something like this. Of course it's going to get discussed. Also, MC415 brings up a good point---why NOT let Elsie play 8 man football for a couple years, get NCS to give them an exemption. Sacred Heart in SF got permission to stop playing WCAL football because the team got stomped so bad--after a few years, football team back in the WCAL (while all the other sports stayed in WCAL). Who remembers when this happened, I know it did.

Absolutely should be talked about. It's a high school football forum pertaining to redwood empire teams??
Don't think he refs can implement a running clock without consent of both the coaches, but not positive. It should be mutually agree upon by the coaches the refs should not be able to independently make that call.
SHC left the WCAL (1989) but still played 11 man football as an independent until about 10 years ago.

Agree it should be talked about and agree that it needs to remain as a discussion not a bag on EA forum. EA has my respect as the players and coaches put in the time and work hard regardless of wins or losses.

I've never seen Elsie play so maybe I'm out of touch with how down the program is. I've always heard that they've had a few athletes. I have respect for any kid that straps on the gear and gives it 100 and any coach that puts in the time to put together a program with some integrity. If Elsie lost 300-0 every week but the kids were respectful, got good grades, learned some life lessons, helped out in the community then I'd say they have a successful program. It's not all about the W. If Analy did what I said and played the entire game with wide receivers and running backs on the line and lineman carrying the rock and still hung a huge score then I would say that would be pretty "harsh". Otherwise I'd say it's way more harsh for 3 or 4 bottom dweller SCL scrubs trying their hardest to hang 50 on Elsie every year for their 1 or 2 wins. Would Elsie lose like that every year if Analys staff or Cronin or Foltmer or Feliciano were running the program for a couple of years? I'd bet any amount of money that Feliciano could win at least 2 games the first year pounding the rock in the doublewing

I have respect for any kid that straps on the gear and gives it 100 and any coach that puts in the time to put together a program with some integrity. I suspect this is true at most every school, for most kids and coaches. The kids who don't stay long or never join a team to begin with are the ones who dislike work, resist teamwork, or sullenly resent any adult authority. Agree this should not be a dump on EA forum. if Analy's staff or Cronin or Feliciano were running the program for a couple of years? I don't think those coaches could do any better with the football athletes EA would "ordinarily" have. Yes, their teams would do better in a couple years, but only because the coaches' reputation would attract experienced football players who would NEVER had chosen to attend EA otherwise. EA makes do with kids who never strapped on a helmet; maybe only Feliciano could succeed in that environment. In short, I don't think it's the coaching--as the Press Democrat pointed out, 60 kids playing soccer at EA and I bet if they had the teams could get 60 more.

I say that a strong system beats strong athletes every time.. Look at the state bowl games.. Every year we are treated to a system vs. stud mismatch and we have all seen the system carry teams to victory.. Here is the reality.. When you lose year in and year out you don't have a large turnout of kids with championship attitudes. This is something that athletes need to believe in! If they don't they will lose 99% of the time. I disagree SC.. All three named coaches would produce wins the first year.. In my opinion thus is a weak division that produces mismatches interdividionally each season. It is in desperate need of realignment. It is no wonder there is a clear victor before the season even starts... I wanna see an Analy vs Newman game.. Any picks on that? That being said.. State bowl games in Sacramento this year.. Anyone else going?

I just don't see what can be gained by having a game between Analy and Elsie. I'm all for playing the game and routing for the underdog, but I cant even give Elsie a chance. I'm not hating or being negative, I'm just a realist. Imagine what we will be saying if one of Analy's stars gets a season ending injury? Is it really worth it?
