To know whether or not you're rewarding mediocracy or if your giving some kids a chance to play one more game of football, a game they truly love and have worked hard at all year you would have to know the team from the inside, not from the outside looking in. Every team has got their players that live for the game and work their butts off to play their best just as every team has got those players that just put out enough to get by. Bench them and they go there as if it's a reward where as a kid who loves the game would be pissed about being benched.
So what is your team makeup? Mostly slackers, or mostly goal driven hard working players? Is your .500 record due to hard fought games that came down to the wire against tough apponents or was your coach pulling his hair out all night having no clue as to motivate the kids to at least try to execute what he's been pounding in their brains all season?
If you're not a coach or on the team you can't really answer this so you how can you argue either side of this debate.
Rewarding mediocracy or extending a kid's glory days? It doesn't really matter just let them play.

I for one am all about allowing the kids to get the most out of their athletic careers and enjoying this time of their life and being rewarded for all their hard work. Im just opposed to the ultimate lesson being displayed here.
True, if there is a situation where there is 12 very talented, competitive teams and only 8 spots, then expansion is a great idea. Very seldom is that going to be the case though. And we all know thats not what the NCS has in mind even if they try to cover up their monetary agenda with it.
I just remember(even back in my day) when making it to the Play-offs was a BIG deal because not just any team was selected. We felt special for being one of the elite teams allowed to continue our season. This ultimate "watering-down" of the play-off system is going to take that away. Now you dont have to worry too much about the critical "must win games" because you still might be able to sneak in.
I do see the other side of this argument and, just like in most arguments, one side wont be happy with the result. In this case the special/elite teams wont feel as special or elite, so that the average teams can feel better than average. Fair enough.
I can live with that, just dont have to agree with it.

I guess my question was not against the rules. Thanks for clarifying everyone. I found out what I needed to know anyway on Friday at the MC / CN game. And it was in the PD yesterday. So its not an internal matter as far as who and if they were playing or not. I also have friends with kids at CN so....
Goof luck to all teams that are in the playoffs!! It was nice to see the Monty boys watching the game from MC's side!!!!

I have no dog in this fight, so hopefully it will be a good game. With that said I still see Petaluma by 2 TD's +.
