The two Lakes are having down years, it's no secret. Running the score up unnecesarily on Upper Lake is something anyone can do, but choses not to. Fort Bragg and Cloverdale put up 60, 70 points on them, but it was their second/thrid strings who put those last points up. Willits kept their starters in. Willits, however, has only a few subs to actually sub in. Not defending what Willits did, just pointing out that they had very little choice in what to do.
Coach Collicot made the mistake of saying that his team went out to punish Upper Lake for 4 quarters when he heard that it was looking to be a decent matchup. His own hubris made others in Lake County despise him. When he put up 68 points on Lower Lake, that was the final straw; Lower Lake (and formerly long time Kelseyville) coach Stan Weiper is a highly respected coaching figure in Lake County. Running up the score on a man who's devoted so many years of his life in high school football isn't a good idea.
Willits could have kept a lower profile had the media not blown up the coverage, and they only further shot their own foot when players and coaches went on to the Lake County Record-Bee website and taunted the Lake County citizens. Too much drama frankly for me.

Sounds crazy that they can't find a kicker, Willits enrollment is not that small. Even if it is the lack of special teams falls directly on the coaches. Special teams are part of the game. Teach a kid to kick, send them to a kicker camp, find a soccer player, but do something. Teach the game, be a coach! Hell special teams almost killed Grant in the SBG last year.
Like it or not it special teams are a huge part of the game espcially in the playoffs where teams are more evenly matched. A good punter that can give you field position can be huge.
Teams that alwauys go for 2 after every touchdown, never understood that either (there is even a basic formula of when to go for 2 available for coaches).

I guess Willits had a little too much fun, but then it was back to reality when they played Fort Bragg & Middletown. Salesian will beat them pretty bad too.

4th quarter, i suspect lots of teams don't have legit kickers, even those of Willits' size, but am blank on examples.....perhaps others can come up with more D4 examples from this year or previous....
as for soccer players on football team, that really depends on the relationship between the football coach and soccer kid and soccer coaches ... not always the friendliest and yet another skill today's football coach needs to be good at... I don't believe there are any NCS restrictions on it, except for maybe playing 2 sports on the same day.
in the meantime, the upper and lower lake teams need to learn to cradle the ball on a botched kick off; few of their opponents will have a kicker who sends it in a perect arc to the 10 yard line...it might help the willits coaches to bone up on kicking too, in case they get a good propsect then they can help him. Willits eventually can't just keep giving away field position because they are unable to get coax someone to kick a ball from a tee decently ...

Come on.... We are talking playoff High school football here and a team does not have someone that can put a ball on a tee and kick it? SImple facts you score more than the other team you win. If you cant get it to the end zone squib it and defense does their job and then you drive and score end on conversation....
I think Willits will only be kicking the ball once or twice this weekend anyway but punting could be a problem as I see a lot of 4th and longs in their future against St. Mary's

Salesian 45 Willits 0
Guess they didnt have to worry too much about kicking off the ball.
I wonder how happy the Willits players were about getting another game because of the bracket expansion. Now that their last three games were blow-outs?
Valley Christian 35 Cloverdale 25
Wow. Is Valley Christian for real? Or did Cloverdale have a bad night?

Valley Chrisitan is for real. Look for them in the next few years to become a dominant program. They are starting to draw alot of athletes. Perala has said he wants to build a program that someday could compete with DLS (don't think they will ever achieve that lofty status though). This is this first year for football and they were missing up to six starters in some of their loses. Down the road I could see them in the DIII or DII field and sounds like they could become a powehouse.

Valley Christian vs. Middletown. Guess we'll get to see for sure this weekend when they play the Mighty Mustangs of Middletown. Its a good test for any program.
Ft. Bragg vs. Ferndale. We also get to see how Ferndale stacks up against some local talent when they play Ft. Bragg. I heard Cimolino is running for Ft. Bragg. Does anyone know his status?
Justin-Sienna vs. St. Mary's. I like this match-up. Justin is no stranger to playing tough teams due to seeing Novato and MC during the season. They are always a wild card in D. IV. St. MArys has proven they can play this year by competing in a tough BSAL.

Jake will be playing for Ft Bragg. I still would take Ferndale and Middletown. SV is in a tough spot as they usualy get blown out by many d4 schools and thier enrollment is going down. SV most likely is going to join a new league made up of both d4 and d5 schools in 2011. To the Mustangs credit they have tried to join other leagues that would have been more competitve but were voted down.

Im not talking about St. Vincent's League. They need to join a more competitive play-off division. I saw the Cloverdale game and they didnt get "blown-out" in that one. As a matter of fact, they "blew out" a D. IV playoff team in Clear Lake earlier this season.
So I only see one reason to play "down" in playoffs.

Valley Christian is the real deal. Two of their losses against Berian Christian & Salesean occurred when six of their starters were suspended (4- both ways). Salesian's head coach said they were the team to beat in their league during the preseason before this happened. One of their coaches is NFL Hall of Former Rod Woodsen, and Josh Tavis is a former Raider (D-line), as well as a Oklahoma U alumn.
The Middletown game should be good considering how well Valley Christian looked against Cloverdale.

WOW! Congrats to Valley Christian. 30 - 29 over Middletown in OT. Very, very impressive. I really thought Middletown would go deeper into the play-offs this year.
Valley Christian is hard to get a read on. Their scores all over the place. The lose to McClymonds and Americian. Get blown out by Berean Christian, then come out and beat good Cloverdale and Middletown teams.

#9, 12, 7 and 3 teams in the semi finals! This has by far been one of the most exciting years for playoffs. I hope that Valley Christian can pull off another win over Justin, you can imagine how much I hate Justin being a St. Helena grad lol.

Talk about a well rounded bracket! Three of the four qrt final games went into OT, and the 3rd game was a 1pt victory for Justin. The D4 bracket is what playoff football is all about. Simply amazing games.
