Forget about what this does for the game. What does this say to all the other players who have put in the time and work to keep their grades up for fear they wouldn't be able to play and let down their teammates? A kid gets a 1.33 on his report card, not allowed to play, but then they make playoffs and then strings are pulled to allow him to play. Like I said, what does this say? I think Petaluma will win regardless, but I'm seriously disappointed. Someone please help me understand how this can happen.

1965, i would love to explain it to you but it would not make you feel any better. I am a big believer in school first, football second so I understand how you are feeling.I will say this though no strings are being pulled by the school to get him playing

Just lost a lot of respect for Conroy. Terrible example. Seriously a 1.33? How could a coach even allow this?

No strings were pulled and it had nothing to do with Conroy. Poeu missed some school the week prior to report cards due to personal reason. He was given time to make up the missed work and he was treated just as any other student would he been. Although i dont beleive this effects the game much because Gracia proved last week at SR he can run the veer just as well.

Santa Rosa and Petaluma are completely different teams. They are lucky to have Poeu he is a very good player

Yeah very true.. but its Poueu or Po for the spelling, please guys dont chop the name addition to his bad grades.. but if he does play he probably wont start.. but garcia is a great young player in their system. so look for good things from the cougar team.. I would like to see a close game.. but if petaluma plays well they will win by alot.. but Peleti-Gore can play a key to the success of the game for sure

If a school decides an athlete is waiver eligible and still has an available waiver then he is going to be allowed to play. The team prepared for SR and Petaluma figuring he was done for the year until word came along from the Administration that things were going to work out. It was good news but game plans are already in place. There was no begging, lying, shadiness or favoritism given.

I wouldn't pretend to know all the details surrounding this situation. And truthfully, I wouldn't want to as I think the private and scholastic life of high school kids shouldn't become public. But I hope Rancho Cotate is doing this for all the right reasons. Meaning, if this was done out of making football the priority, that doesn't seem right. But if this is legitimate and the right thing to do, then not only do I not have a problem with it, but think all the other teams would welcome it as well.

You can say that again Mustang. If this were about a Newman kid there'd probably be another whole page of comments.

Like with all decisions regarding high school student/athletes, you just hope the right "life lessons" are being taught. And I, for one, completely trust any decision Coach Conroy and AD Henry Sartile(sp?) make. Coach Conroy has been doing this for a very long time and he knows the right way to handle these situations.
I also agree with Mustang, this would be a different situation if it were Newman. Not to point fingers or stir up animosity, I just hope people realize they need to be open minded to situations regardless of school and trust administration is making the right choices.

Mustang, you still have to remember that newman did have two kids kicked off the team.. and that wasnt for grades so i dont know why everyone is saying that Peleti-Gores grades should have been kept up.. Newmans two players were removed for other issues so i guess newman is on the map this week for a certain tune..

In addition to NCS grade requirements, CN has a strict code of conduct that families and students must agree to in writting. Plus student-athletes have an additional code of conduct that they and their parents must agree to in writing.
NBL - not sure what you mean by "newman is on the map this week for a certain tune". It is a long established aspect of the school's culture to swiftly and decisively deal with improper conduct. No one was surprised by the outcome.

Well i am just saying that it seems like Newman is in the news for something other than grades lately with their players.. Rancho always seems to get a bad wrap whenever something happens like losing players to grades.. I say let the kids play if they can prove that they improved their grades enough to be eligible for postseason... I wonder if the players from newman will be able to come out next year for the team
