You can throw the Newman/ Rancho game out the window. Rancho was not prepared for the toss.
Newman could not do anything against a banged up Windsor team that was prepared for the Toss.
Newman will not be surprising anyone in Petaluma like they did Rancho. I like Petaluma by 2+ TD's.

and to compares scores is silly..you could do that all day. I don't know who will win this Friday, obviously Petaluma is the favorite....but it is pretty obvious that the SCL is better then the NBL over this season. And nothing that happens the rest of the way will change that. NOTHING.

I am an NBL fan, and I have to hand it to the SCL, that league has had a great season. Six out of Seven teams in the playoffs, and three of the six through to the 2nd round! Then I take into account that Erion did not play for Windsor, and King has been injured and forced to play out of position some games. Just think if Windsor would have been at full strength. Scary!
With that said, I think that if there was a local D2 league comprised of Petaluma, Casa, Montgomery, Newman, Rancho, Windsor, & Maria Carrillo; that any of those schools could beat each other on a given night. However, what makes a good team special, is the ability to win when you have an off night, or a close game, and Petaluma clearly has this special quality. The bottom line is that Rancho & Carrillo played Petaluma & Casa tough respectively, but they DID NOT WIN the game. This is also why Montgomery is a league champ, they have the ability to win close games.
I hope Casa & Montgomery can keep winning and play in two weeks, I know Montgomery would like another shot at Casa. Las Lomas & Clayton Valley will be tough tests.

Relax Francis(primetime). Like i said IMO. Rancho was cheated out of that win.Scl does have a couple Div III teams too? Elsie/ Piner should be shuffled into SCL and Windsor and Petaluma into the NBL.

Petaluma should not have a problem with Neman this Friday as this Newman team, and I mean no disrespect to the kids on the team, but this Newman team is the worst Newman offense to take the field in years. If Cronin had stuck with the spread offense I doubt they would have won even three games, but Cornin is a very smart coach and what the kids lack in talent they obviously make up in heart. Newman's defense will need to keep them in the game and hopefull the offense will be able to capitalize on any mishaps Petaluma has.
Let's just hope the final is not affected by poor officiating.

I talked to the PD guys on Saturday and they said they have a pic which clearly shows that Fish's foot was out of bounds. What they couldn't tell is in where the ball was, when his foot was out of bounds..

If Fish stepped out of bounds, why wasn't the clock stopped??? Rancho coaches asked the officals for an explanation and only got blank stares in response.

The clock didn't run at least I don't think it did when the spike happened. I'm not 100% sure about that...but according to my play by play (and I have it at home so I'm doing this by memory) there was only a little over a second counted off for the spike...

I was not at the game, but i have heard from several people, including a Rancho coach, that the clock was not stopped when Fish stepped of bounds. The clock should not have been running necessitating the spike. If you get a chance, Homer, it would be nice to hear what happened.

Hoosh, that jives with what I observed at that game. A couple more observations:
1) Russell did not appear to fumble. He was on a knee rolling up after a tackle. Can't fumble when you're already down.
2) A few bad PI calls. The kids timed their breakups well, and the same ref that missed item #1 was out of position on both PIs. That human element is part of the game, I s'pose..
3) Same ref out of position when Fish knocked out of bounds at the 1 yd line. Clock should have stopped, and was, but then the ref wound it, forcing RC's next play, a spike at just under 5 seconds to allow the coach to send in his play.
4) Last Play from my point of view: The next play snapped at 4.6 or 4.8 seconds. It was the FB dive left by Sergio. The PHS line got good push and the RC line bowed slightly back. PHS LB Simms sliced inside (slanting?) and hit FB immediately. Qb handed off then began pushing FB enthusiastically and obviously from behind (but no aiding runner flag thrown). Long scrum as the clock runs down to 0.0; both teams battling what seemed like forever. PHS DL #73 has worked through line and is pulling FB backward. The pile up is short. And the thing I saw that I haven't seen anyone else comment on...Sims comes up from the pile holding the ball. Despite postings on this board, RC did not score...in fact, a penalty should have negated a score, had they made one AND Simms finished the play with the ball, so had there been time on the clock, it'd've been PHS's ball. An exhausting play epitomizing a hard played game.
5) The adverse conditions of the game--the field (muddy, slippery, wet) and the referees (horrendous)--adversely impacted both teams equally.
6) Sorry to beat a dead horse, but the officiating was terrible. Easily the worst I've seen all year; the refs are generally pretty good. But the line judge on the home side was especially horrible. Late whistles jeopardized kids. Obvious penalties from holdings to late hits by both teams were ignored throughout the game, while they made calls apparently based on hallucinatory visions at other points. Just absolutely horrible refereeing. It's too bad such a shoddy crew is able to do a postseason game.
Too bad the officiating ended up being such a focus of the game and postgame discussions. Despite that, thanks to all the athletes for a representing their schools and communities so well.

I am wondering if I watched the same game. I was on the visitor sideline and I didn't really notice the officiating much at all. I will add to I didn't notice to much bickering from the Rancho sideline...until the very end when they think they scored two touchdown. Only the film will show whether they did or not. And I still say..the clock wasn't wound after the play got Rancho inside the 1...(see my other post)
