Petaluma gets away with a 12-7 victory, Rancho does not score as time runs out on the 1 yard line. The play before it look like Sean Fish goes over the goal line but is ruled down on the 1. People said he put the ball over before his knee hit, but the offical did not see it that way. Hard fought game, Sullivan and Dworkin were non factors.

What do you mean "before his knee hit"? From what I heard, he was never tackled. And if he went out of bounds, then why did they still have to spike the ball before running off a final play? My buddy said there was bad officiating both ways. It looked like Russell was down before they ruled the ball a fumble. Either way, I heard it was a great game. Good luck to the Trojans.

What an amazing finish to a closely fought game. It was just too bad one of the teams had to lose and I tip my cap to Rancho Cotate for their performance. Shutting down the Trojan offense like they did and their final drive, despite the end result, was pretty impressive. I realize nothing I can say will console or make any Cougar fans feel better. I wouldn't blame them if they felt the better team didn't win tonight. Which is why I think both teams deserve to hold their heads up high.
But also as a Trojan fan, I felt like I aged a year watching tonight's game. I can't imagine what the player's parents must have gone through. And one could easily spot the parents amongst all the fans. The fans were wildly cheering after the game. The parents all had a look of shock on their face as they struggled to believe what they just saw.
So thanks to both teams for a terrific game. That's what playoff football is supposed be. And I heard there may have been an even more exciting game across town?

It was an unbelievable finish. I was on the wrong side of the field so I'm not sure if it was a touchdown or not. But what a game...Tough break for Rancho...they lost a few like that this season. A recap of the game is up at ysn365.com

Yeah petaluma almost lost it last night.. Rancho could have been the upset team.. but i really dont think petaluma could beat a newman team or even windsor after such a unimpressive showing, but i could be wrong.. Shut down the run and u have won half of the battle

Rancho won it, Twice. Its that simple we got robbed. I was running down the field as a watched Sean Fish make a great play by diving and extending the ball out in front of him as it went across the plane. he was hit while in the air but he still got the ball across and he landed just outside the end zone. Then after we scored and they took it from us coach called 31 wedge, Petaluma had to backers standing in that gap but still Sergio got the ball and ran in to me as we both fell across the goal line. We had more heart and the Line did a great job giving Sergio the chance. As i was getting up a saw the goal line i crossed that I know Sergio crossed to but once again we were robbed. I knew we got in both time and i was right because i just watched the film over and over again and its clear that Rancho really won that game. We were the first 16 seed in the NCS to beat a 1 seed. Everyone of my teammates and coach's know in our heart that we pulled together and did it as a team. I will forever have a great respect for my teammates who played with everything they had and left it all on the field.
We gave it our all and to me the final score of that game is 13-12. You don't have to agree with me but the tape doesn't lie. I know what happened and will never forget it for the rest of my life.

Questionable calls all night. On both sides....

I think there are a couple of ways to look at this game:
1. Was Petaluma exposed? Perhaps. But they struggled offensively just like they had the first time they played the Cougers almost two months ago. And Petaluma went on to average more than 45 points a game until last night. So it would appear Petaluma's next 6 opponents, which includes 5 playoff teams, weren't able to take advantage of whatever RC may have exposed after their first meeting.
2. As I originally said (and feared), I simply think RC matches up very well against Petaluma. Others more familiar with both teams may be able to comment about specifically why, but I have a hard time ignoring how Petaluma was able to effectively run against 9 teams, but twice struggled against RC.
3. As I understand why some may question Petaluma after this game, you can't overlook their defense. They held Rancho to 7 points, and that TD was primarily as a result of getting the ball inside the 10 after a Trojan fumble.
4. I say this acknowleding how it may sound like a lame excuse, but I think the field conditions played a part in last night's game. This isn't meant as an excuse for Petaluma's offensive struggles or to diminish how RC played defensively, but I've always felt a sloppy field will truly level the playing field. Again, not an excuse as they both played on the same field and it appeared RC handled the conditions better, but I can't help wonder how this game would have played out had it not been in the mud. But for Petaluma, they need to address this as there's a good chance next week's game is played in the same conditions.
Lastly, I think either CN or Windsor feeling more confident about playing Petaluma next week is warranted. As a matter of fact I welcome it.

I wish both teams could have won last night. And while rancho played above their talent level, petaluma played below theirs. I had a bad feeling about the game since before kickoff. Petaluma seemed to have no energy, it was freezing, the field was a pool, and there was nobody in the stands. I wouldn't expect that same petaluma team next week, I believe rancho lit a fire under their A** and they will come to play.
On a seperate note, I think the $9 NCS admission price is keeping fans away from the games. Also, did anybody else see the PI call on petaluma? Ill try to recall it the best I can, but I might be wrong: Rancho throws about a 20 yard pass which is broken up and goes straight in the air, then the Rancho receive gets up off the ground and probably got his feet tangled with the petaluma DB in front of him, so virtually the Petaluma DB gets tackled from behind and gets a PI? please correct me if I'm wrong

Terrible officiating. Russell did not fumble was on the ground got the ball stolen from him. Also you are right the PI was terrible. It was perfect timing. On some of the false starts I thought Petaluma jumped first. Rancho79 just play the game and stop writing on a blog. It was a great game and Rancho should have never been a 16 seed

Yo Richardson stop complaining you guys lost. I was there and saw the whole game. I don't think you guys scored and I had a good seat wear I could see the goal line. Just be happy your Big In & Out burger eatins a$$ got to play an 11th game. You and your team underachieved all season. And by the way if you guys some how found a way to win last night you woulda got rolled by the double wing next week. Look at the positives now you can spend more time at In & Out Burger.

This was a solid fight by two solid teams. Way to slug it out whistle to whistle.
I don’t want to get to much into the missed calls, but I will throw this out there. Its hard for me as a Rancho grad to say that Rancho got robbed when Peleti Gore clearly assisted the runner on the last play (a la Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart). Its hard to make a case of getting cheated, while cheating, if you know what I mean.
Rancho showed that they were hardly a 16 seed last night. Rancho played Petaluma to the wire twice, took the number 3 seed Vikings to OT, and got caught slipping by solid Newman and Maria squads. All this with a good number of injuries here and there from what I read.
Good year Rancho!

I thought the Refs did a good job keeping out of the way. As in any games there will be some questionable moments. As for the last two plays...the first one I was standing on the other side of the field at the 20 and couldn't tell..would like to see the tape. The second one..I was standing at the goal line and there is no way I could of called a touchdown from where I was standing. He was stopped and whatever happen after that hard to tell. Its like a fumble on the bottom of the pile. Who really had it first. Was he in the end zone? Who knows. Also what slick said is true...I wondering if there is a rule in H.S. about helping a runner like that. It was pretty flagrant. Is there a rule for that? Either way great game..and I was shocked Rancho was a No. 16 when they came out. Obvious it was to get the local matchups no matter what they say.

ok im gonna put this out there SCL #1,2 vs NBL #15 ,16. Clearly Rancho was cheated out of a win. Casa had their hands full with MC down to the wire. IMO NBL is the stronger league.
