When he tucked it and ran he didn't pitch it once. He played very selfish.

Yea sure? That's why Sims ran the ball so well out of the triple option this season. If he was selfish, he would have kept instead of reading to Sims all the time. Sullivan and Sims had over 1000 each, and he only had 800. Part of the reason Russell had so much success was Sean. So many teams worried about Sullivan and keyed on him that the cutback was there all day for Russell. And about tucking the ball, I think ball control is key in HS football. Fumble, and it's all over. Did Petaluma have trouble moving the ball all season? no... except Eureka and even then they marched down the field on their first drive.
Get your head off the stupid YSN video that mentions Russell as making a poor read. I'd like to see you out there doing it .

Russel's ball control skills were not good at all. He was constantly handing to Simms because it was easier, and he would get freaked out. Then even when the pitch was wide open for a break away run Russel would settle to get himself a nice little 8 yarder instead of a Sullivan 55+ yarder. Just go back and watch on hdle or ysn and you'll see. Even when it was a counter or dive that was supposed to go to Simms or Sullivan he would get rushed at the line and just take off. Sometimes he got lucky and got away with it. AND he shouldn't have over 1000 rushing yards, he's a QUARTER BACK. His job was to run the offense and keep it going smoothly. Which he was mediocre in...

Come on Native, Petaluma set a new Team Rushing Record with Russell, Simms and Sullivan! Sullivan set a new school record for single season rushing yards. Simms set a new Fullback rushing record. Russell had 800 yards rushing that has not happened for a QB since 1989. The Petaluma Team tied the 1976 record of most wins. Russell threw 76 times this year with a 50% completion, set a new school record with the least interceptions in a single season! In the last 10 or more years every QB has thrown 6 or more interceptions with approximently the same amount of attempts. Russell was the highest scoring QB in the SCL and NBL. He also had 6 passing TDS. He averaged 17 yards per throw the best average in both SCL and NBL. Sherry followed with 14 yards per throw, Elmos QB 12 yards per throw both had 14 or more INT. Russell also had the least turnovers fumbles and INT. in SCL and NBL. I was at the Eureka game you mentioned, Russell seemed to be one of the few players who was not FREAKED OUT! Didn't he score the only TD by running over the Eureka player? He also went 6 for 8 passing. If you were at the game you would have watched Simms and Sullivan fumble at key times just like Russell did. As far as Russell not being a player, did he not run for 55 yards breaking 3 tackles to score the winning TD against Rancho? Russell and Simms both scored 2 TDS against Newman in the playoffs. Ukiah 4 rushing TDS. Casa 1 rushing 1 throwing, starting the game off with a 50 yard run. Carrillo 1 rushing 2 throwing these are just a few big games Russell contributed to. So with this info. and the numbers of Sullivan, Simms and Russell how could he have ever been a MEDIOCORE QB?? Russell had the best QB rating in the SCL!! GET REAL NATIVE!! and stop hating on Russell. Not once did he choke in a big game Russell played even harder. Thats why his pic was in the papper every week or maybe he was just good looking. I cant believe the stupid posts on this board.

"Russel's ball control skills were not good at all. He was constantly handing to Simms because it was easier" -Native, Do you know anything about the triple option? ?? Obviously not. The ball is handed to the full back when the fullback is not tackled by the READ in the triple option. It is a READ play. When Sims was not tackled, the ball is supposed to be given to him. That is the most fundamental part of their offense, which you obviously have no understanding of. A guaranteed 3-4 yard gain every single time, and often much ore than that. I can't even begin to describe how far off your descriptions are. Oh and native, what is this "hdle" you speak of? and "he would get freaked out", are you serious? I haven't seen a PHS quarterback run the triple that smoothly for nearly a decade.

Don't forget Chad Krist for Petaluma's 2007 season. You gotta give him some credit. With Burnett and Sullivan, he did a great job running that offense. Petaluma didn't have the O-Line or D-Line with the caliber of the 2009 team, but Chad was a cool head and did a great job. Not to mention, the character of Chad as a young man was to be respected. He has been one of my favorites to watch these past four years.
