the real reason to select, is the commitment they would make to srhs and its program. i dont know much about any of these men, the guy that is best out there is augusto i understand. he is ready to jump back into a hc role from rumorville.he has a tremendous track record. i think o-line was ok based on talent and lack of depth. 2 all empire guys in roselli and parsons. pole some guys that they were improvred. i heard he had death close to him and he missed some time early.

Newman fan, I don't understand how we need to watch for SR's "RB" (running back?) "in a few years"? You mean, three years from now, because there is a frosh phenom currently at SRHS? Do you mean six years from now, because some kid currently in the 6th grade is for certain going to be a great star as a junior for SR? A rather silly post, it seems to me.
Newman fans are always eager to praise the NBL teams they continually pummel. Can't blame CN fans, it's in their best interest to assert the NBL provides them with tough competition. SR has beaten Newman, what, four times in three decades? I think everyone is better off to beware of the lot of talent coming up at CN, it's laughable to think anyone will be taking much notice of SR "in a few years", running back or no!!

scobserver I think the Newman fan was refering to the two that played for the phantoms that Cronin alledgedly got caught trying to recruit but failed?

Unfortunately, SR doesn't have a lot of talent coming up. They have a few very good players but no depth. And after having Keefer come in and then bale, I would bet that the better players will jump to Newman.
Very sad situation. I for one had hoped that SR could build a program with Ponce and then with Keefer. Unfortunately, I think Keefer dealt them a death blow by going "one and done."
Currrent kids that can, will probably seriously consider getting the heck out of there and Newman is the only way to go if you're older than a freshman. And kids coming in will seriously look at Monty or Newman.

Koa Misi was at Santa Rosa as a sophomore then went over to Monty for his last two seasons. Walt Finley did the same, but went over to Piner. Might see some got to Carrillo should they decide to move away from the Santa Rosa program.
Sure would be nice to see Ponce back as HC.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the conjecture about the whole SR situation. I think that there is more talent at SR than many of you think...For example, some of those kids have never been asked to play, some of them went into 'hiding' once Ponce was gone, and yes, some of them are still playing youth football. The coach will need to be on campus as much as possible to get those kids to at least come to a meeting...and not just ONE meeting (you miss it, you don't play), but several opportunities to get in on building a team from the ground up. A challenge, yes...but a worthy one. While I readily admit that SR has A LOT of work to do - I think that with the right coaching staff in place, they can be competitive. I've heard some people say that the reason SR can't keep coaching staff is because there isn't support from the administration. To me, if a coach needs administration's 'support' - what kind of coach can he/she be? Talk to the kids, get to know some of the parents, coach your team, take care of the grades - that's pretty much it. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have a good relationship with the administration because if they DO believe in your program, they will HELP you...imagine that! I know that some think that there won't be a lot of expectations in regards to wins/losses for the 'new' coach - however, I want to make it clear to EVERYONE...SR (the students, the players, the coaching staff, etc) SHOULD expect a change...a good change. The SR student body is so accustomed to losing, yet they STILL COME TO THE GAMES, and noise is an issue according to ...imagine what will happen when the team begins to shift and gain belief in their game play and faith in the coaching staff. I hope you are all as excited as I am to see what is in store for the Santa Rosa Panthers!

Nice message "ilovefootball" I agree with the new staff coming in and meeting with the kids etc. and although they have a lot of work ahead of them there is good talent there that just hasn't been used. Can't wait to see what the new coaching staff will look like.

Anyone -- scobserver should understand that we shouldn't be telling other people that their posts are not good or silly or whatever. Aren't we aloud to post anything we want to discuss? As long as we are not being negative towards players, teams and coaches and others on this site? Just saying.
Can't wait to see the phantom players that be eventually playing for SR that newmanfan was talking about.

I agree, great post ilovefootball. Sounds to me your making a case for Matt Tomlin to coach at Santa Rosa too, haha.

Actually, I would never make ANY suggestion on who should be the next coach/es for SR or any local teams.
I went to a few of the Piner games this year and think that Coach Tomlin has started working that team in the right direction...I really like to see a program begin to build upon it's successes and hope that they continue being successful.
I'm at a football game every Friday night, watching youth football every Sunday. I know who I think would be the best coaching staff to turn the Santa Rosa program around. Whoever it is will give them the confidence and conditioning that will enable them to play start to finish at a level that will allow them to win against a highly ranked football team.
I just hope that everyone keeps in mind that even though the JV team isn't the focus...it definitely is the future...working on the basics and instilling the discipline required to build into a great Varsity program.
Just my 2 cents...and really that's all it's worth!

I agree, Ponce was and is one of the best chances for Santa Rosa to become a respectable program again.

John Antonio has applied for the Santa Rosa job as of yesterday. Ponce has agreed to return to Santa Rosa should Antonio get hired to be his OC.

Well....this is QUITE exciting, I must say! I love pleasant surprises and this is definitely in that category!
I've known John since he was a little guy playing football with Petaluma Pop Warner! I hope this works out, Santa Rosa will be VERY fortunate if this is indeed the direction that they go, and to have Ponce back on staff working with John will only be icing!!
EXCELLENT NEWS!!
