Antonio told me a week ago through a text that he was gonna apply. Ben I thought you said he told you he wasn't applying? Ben I'm not sure you know what the heck is going on. Starting rumors that are not true.

Alright Insidezone, if you want to open a can or worms, you've succeeded.
1) I told John myself the job opened the second it did. He asked me not to tell anyone he had applied until he was okay with it. Ask him and he will tell you exactly that.
2) Exactly what are these rumors I'm starting? Give me an example.
3) Remain professional on this board, or you will be asked to leave. First and last warning sir.

This site is not here for trash talking individuals. Take that b.s. elsewhere zone.
Back to football talk. Does anybody know the deadline for applying for the Santa Rosa job. The two names I am hearing on campus are Richardson and Antonio. Haven't heard that either is a favorite over the other. Best of luck to both.

I've heard through the grapevine that Les Richardson has the lead over Antonio, but I don't believe either have interviewed yet. I dont know a lot about Les, other than what any football fan could have gathered, but Antonio is ready to move on the position and stay for quite a while. He told me he already has a staff for the Varsity level ready to go. With Richardsons experience, I would assume he has done the same. Still a curious move with Richardson going to Santa Rosa in my opinion. He could very well be in line for the Rancho job when Conroy retires. I have no idea when that might roll around, but he is going on his 22nd season as Varsity coach, and I believe he was the frosh and JV coach for a few years prior to that.

Ben, les has a commanding lead in the race for the head coach posistion. not speaking for Les, but with his son graduating from high school and with him retiring, this is the perfect time for him. Les is a very good coach who will build a great coaching staff around him. He is not going to leave after 1 year.and will help turn that program around..... Good luck Les, we will miss you at The Ranch

Good luck to Les, Rancho has been doing so well as a program for a long time, so its just natural we would see one of their coaches take over somewhere else. I'm really hoping for a coach at SR that will stay for a while.

I havent heard about the college coach putting in for Santa Rosa at all. I think I know of the MCAL coach your talking about but could be wrong. If it is the same coach, hasnt he been out of the game for a while??
Les is a defensive coach, he could decide to go with another offense. As for boring, personally I think the triple option is boring, but watching Rancho run the I-veer is great. When the croud gets into it Rancho's option game can become unstoppable.

Les has a big advantage with his coaching experience, knowing dellepere etc. He was with him in Reno this past weekend at the clinic of champions. In my opinion it's Les' job.
The college coach is from out of the area. Dellepere met him in Reno and the guy is relocating to Sonoma County. I am not sure he would get the job because right now the new coach needs to have a staff in place.
The MCAL coach is Cerf. He coached at Redwood for years amd did a good job. He's been out of coaching for a while. That may hurt his chances.
If it's true about Antonio with Ponce that's tough to beat. Two good guys for the price of one. Hard to pass up. But I'm not sure Dellepere will be good with Ponce returning since he was esentially fired. But I know the kids loved Russell and would love to see him back.
Tough time of the year to hire a guy but I think the new coach will be Les Richardson. If not Les I see them going with Antonio.

What about Russell coaching with Les? ? That could be a good combination. Food for thought

Just trying to be objective on the subject and have a few thoughts to throw out there for comment:
1. Seems to me the last two major decisions regarding coaching staff at SRHS have been complete disasters; a) The firing of a coach that received Coach of the Year honors the prior season and had the kid's respect and a solid plan to grow the program. b) Hiring a coach who was quoted in Marin IJ that he was there for the long haul to build Tam High's program, and then bailed immediately after that interview. Then when hired at SRHS for one season, destroyed all morale on the team and allowed the JV's to flounder and be a train wreck. This is a good reason for people who were involved in making these two decisons, to step back and remove themselves from the interviewing process for the current open position.
2. Reading some comments above, I get the distinct impression that if Les was favored for the position, wouldn't the fact that Dellepere and Les were together in Reno be a 'conflict of interest'??
3. I've had past experience with coach Cerf at the youth level and he was really interested in the success of the kids at that point. I don't know what his style has evolved into since the youth football days.
4. Why wouldn't SRHS want to hire someone who exhibits year after year sucess with their program? Should we always 'expect less' and not be disappointed? I for one, am tired of seeing talent that hasn't been properly trained, left on the sidelines to rot in favor of ALWAYS playing the semi-talented natural ability players...shouldn't the coach do their job and coach??
Thoughts?

Amen Ilovefootball. Your #1 point is right on. Bad choice by choosing Keefer in the first place. I think Goddard and Fitzpat drove that decision and at least Goddard is gone. Past behavior predicts future performance. Keefer's gone and yes, he was a morale killer. They had better choices, but the whole thing was a done deal before they even opened the interview process. They must do better this time.

Solution = Head Coach Russell Ponce in 2010.

Any way you spin it S.R. is in trouble. WAAAAAAAAY to late to have to find a coach. And whoever takes it is seriously behind the eight ball already. They (Admin.) better take a long hard look at all the candidates this time. But whoever is applying would have to be committed considering the situation.
It will be a long hard road for whatever coach steps in. But there is talent at that school and they can be competitive once again. Good luck to the coaches applying.
