I was informed tonight by an NBL athletic director that Jabari Young has transferred to Montgomery just days before school and the football season starts. Young played Varsity at Piner last season and has been their top RB at both camps they attended this summer so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. The athletic director told me this is a tricky one because Young went to montgomery his freshman year and was kicked out of school for unknown reasons. It could change the NBL if he is eligible to play at Monty.

I heard about this during the camp at Montgomery last week when Young did not show up to play with Piner on the final day. This is a good move on his part to join the Viking Nation.

Looks like someone has been recruited. He won't be elligable. And if Piner can prove he has been recruited by Merideth then Mobtgomery will be in big trouble. They should know better after what we went through with Ponzo.

He wouldnt have tranfered if he couldnt play this year . Dont be surprised if a few calls were made to insure Jabari can play for Monty.

Wow, seems that others in the NBL have fiquared out Newmans secret to success? Maybe they learned the loop hole after the Ponzo fiasco?

According to my understanding the eligibility rules, the only way he could transfer and not have to play JV or otherwise forfeit this Varsity season is if there was a physical move to the district, or there was an approved issue that forced him to move to another school (harassment, special needs program at other school, etc.). If he transferred from Monty to Piner for disciplinary reasons, I am not sure how you get back to Monty without sitting out a varsity season. Maybe there are details related to this that allow him back to Monty after a certain period of time and circumvent the NCS rules under special circumstances.
He could play if he made a good case for special circumstances (and could prove that there was not interference by Monty coaches), he moved (some kids have two households and it's as easy as moving from mom's to dad's), or there is some loophole that allows him back to his original school (for academic reasons) and qualifies as a special circumstance.
The other option is that the kid might want to get back to Monty and is willing to play JV for a year. If he's better off academically, socially and athletically (in the long run), it's a smart move to switch now and enjoy your senior year on varsity at the school at which you're better off.

This is just wrong, and is completely disrespectful to Coach Tomlin.

I don't like this move either. But at the same time you can see why he got out of there. Let's face it Monty is a much better school that Piner is for sure. Not to mention Monty's football program is miles ahead of piner's.

This move really doesnt make any sense to me.. why would young leave piner, when he basically is the team.. i mean it makes sense since monty has a great program.. but everyone has to remember that young got hurt last year and missed most of the season so how much faith can montys program put in him.. Also i dont see him running the ball with Haas and Real there already.. he could play linebacker.. but what would happen if he does play for monty and doesnt get the time he wanted.. then we will be talking about that midseason.. and by then its too late.. So it kinda leaves you thinking, is this really a good choice on his part

OK, Young can start at Monty or Piner, he's a good player, and Monty is lacking in the running game this season. Problem is, Young will not be able to play this season due to transfer rules, so hes missing out on an entire season of football (again). Transfering to Monty is just a bad idea for him, he'll be on the team I guess, but wont be able to play a down. Wouldn't you like to be on a team and rush of 1,000 yards and finish 4-6, than be on a team and never play, even if that team goes 9-1?

Ben, u make a good point.. we arent saying that Young cant start at either school, but the chances of him playing are very slim so why would he want to take that kind of chance of not being to play.. Anyways i guess we will just wait it out and see how things fall into place..

He cant play at Monty this season, and now he cant play at Piner. Perfect question to ask: If Young has actually done this, and decides to change his mind, would Coach Tomlin accept him back at Piner?? My answer would be a big NO.

So does this mean Piner won't be attending the Bluechip camp next year?

Definitely fishy...ordinarily, if you "follow the coach" one year to the next, it's clear--not eligible. But I'm guessing they secured a "loophole" before hand. If not, it's a big foolish mistake by the kid, and a real jerky thing to do to a kid if Monty coaches were encouraging a move that leads to Young being ineligible. (Not saying they are.....)
A simple move into Monty's area--change of formal guardians, etc., should "be enough" to pass the legal rules, I think. Maybe he has always lived there, if he was at Monty as a frosh. But he should have decided this earlier this summer, not right as school starts. It shouts for an investigation and risks him being declared ineligible.
And too wonder if it is a good move athletically..... it can be better to be a star on a losing team than rarely play on a winning team--guess that's another thread, tho.
