I agree too...and I don't think you are crazy. Unless Eureka really is crazy good, in the realm of Grant, (and I don't think that they are), no one has come close to dominating Montgomery for a game, a half or any length of time. Their defense has been there all year, every game and kept them in games, and I just do not see Vainuku, et al., running ramshod over them. He'll get his yards, and others, but a running team is very unlikely to dominate Monty. And even if they can pass, and especially if they have to, then this plays into Monty's hands too. This should be a close game, and no one should be surprised if Monty wins it.

I'm pulling for Monty in this one. The problem is they won't score more than once, and I have a hard time believing they'll hold Eureka to 14 points. 26-0 eureka

Word has it that the Monty defense was out in some cattleman's field trying to tackle charging bulls in preparation for the game against Eureka. Can anyone confirm the sighting?

okyoureright, I can see why you think that Monty won't score any points but I am going to have to disagree. I'm not saying Monty will put up 50 on Eureka but I think they should be able to manufacture some points. There offense isn't set up to score a lot of points. The formula Monty will have to use to beat Eureka is to force Eureka into a lot of three and outs and keep that Eureka defense on the field. That's where Monty will have a chance to win in the 4th quarter, that Eureka defense is going to be tired. Then all of the sudden those running plays they were running in the 1st quarter that picked up 3 yards will then pick up 8 yards.

Monty offense got all kinds of chances last week and came up with one touchdown.(5 picks) Eureka wont turn the ball over nearly as much. Monty will not be able to score enough. Even if they stop Eureka a couple of times, it simply will not be enough. Monty is good, but they arent even close to Eureka.

People seem to forget. Monty was playing against a very stout defense from Casa. They dont just give your offense touchdowns. Now i'm not going to say Monty is going to beat Eureka but I think they have as good a chance as any local team to win this game.
This is a Montgomery Viking type game. They have to play GREAT run defense and dont make any mistakes on offense. If this is a 14-7 type game it plays right into their hands. Also remember, Monty LIVES for close scoring, hard hitting, "grind it out" battles. Eureka on the other hand has been rolling over teams. Im sure they'll be ready BUT lets see how the Loggers react to a close game.

Tonytiger and poohbear, you hit the nail on the head. As great as Monty's defense is this season, they better be working on some scoop and scores and those pick sixes if they want to put some points on the board. I'm rooting for the Monty all the way on this one, but I also wish them luck. Eureka's been playing all their games in the muck up North and in the words of Seinfeld, "My mudda was a muddah... eats the slop for breakfast." This will be a big and physical smashmouth football game, I hope to see that Monty will hold their own and go for the win.

This game could go either way.. after seeing Eureka last week.. i would be worried if the run gets open like it did against petaluma.. Vainuku is no joke.. kids got talent.. i am not trying to say that monty wont win, but if they do.. vainuku is held under fifty yards..

Petaluma had a great run stopping defense too. And a MUCH better offense. The only reason Monty may have a better chance than Petaluma is that they have better size, and I don't think that will be enough. Look for Eureka to run up the score too high for the Vikings. Good luck Monty

Okay, I think we're all agreeing that Monty is going to have a tough time... I want to see a good game, not another Eureka blowout

I don't think that everybody is scared, I just think that people around the north bay finally realize the skill level of the Eureka team after their recent playoff showings. eureka was definitely a sleeper as their publicity does not get down here very often. I don't think anybody saw Eureka as the team they were coming in (except loggeraxe who is obviously a Eureka fan), and nobody predicted them to go on to win by the scores they have. After that recent showing of beating a great Petaluma team, "I don't see what is left to prove".

Quite unlikely that Franci would allow his team to adopt that mindset...if anything, Monty generally carries itself with a swagger, borne from years of regional success and a solid coaching staff that always believes in itself. I think they are quite relishing the prevailing opinion that Eureka, and Vainuku, is this big bad monster that is destined to run over them like a freight train. I think that Franci will not only have a few tricks in his sleeve, but also a solid game plan that will minimize, or even negate the legend of Vainuku. This will not be a walkover, and I also think that the sting of the last championship game that Franci and Montgomery were in, the shellacking that Newman gave them a few years ago, is present in the mindset...to the degree possible, they will not allow this to repeat. That Newman team was stacked with brawn and talent (gave Oaks Christian all it could handle), but I don't think anyone really believes that Eureka is in that realm. Sure they are a physically imposing team that has manhandled its' playoff opponents, but I just don't see that continuing in this game, especially if Monty can slow the running game down - Eureka will not beat them if it has to resort to passing.
